Carl Froch could return to HBO for his next fight, and if that's something he sees as a key to making his next fight, he reportedly has four options presented by the network: Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and Gennady Golovkin.
All four are interesting fights on paper. Froch (31-2, 22 KO) defeated Kessler in an exciting rematch on May 25, which HBO did air from London. Kessler (46-3, 35 KO) may not be up for a third fight immediately, though it is probably his biggest money option. At 34, Kessler might not be looking to bounce from one hard night to another.
Ward (26-0, 14 KO) beat Froch in 2011 to complete and win the Super Six World Boxing Classic. Ward hasn't fought since last September, is coming off of shoulder surgery, and is reportedly trying to get out from his deal with promoter Dan Goossen.
Chavez (46-1-1, 32 KO) is returning on September 7 in Los Angeles against Brian Vera in an HBO main event, so he won't be available immediately. And Golovkin (26-0, 23 KO) is returning this coming Saturday against Matthew Macklin. Golovkin, who is campaigning at 160 right now, has said he'd go down to 154 or up to 168 for the right fight, and Froch would seem to be a candidate for "the right fight."
It's also possible that Froch will take an in-between fight between HBO appearances that comes against none of these fighters, as he's said he wants to fight again in Nottingham. That could come against any of these guys, but if it doesn't pan out for HBO, he's always got Sky Sports at home.
