According to a report at BoxingScene.com by Mike Coppinger, Danny Garcia and Zab Judah are in rematch talks for this fall. There was a smattering of talk about this idea over the weekend, when Golden Boy was in Brooklyn, where Garcia and Judah both attended the Malignaggi-Broner fight.
Early fan reaction, as you might expect, has not been favorable. A fight between Garcia and Lucas Matthysse is in high demand among those who highly demand Danny Garcia fights, and the fan chatter is, essentially, that there's no excusing Garcia avoiding that fight to rematch someone he clearly beat, even though it was a good fight and Judah was better than some expected.
Garcia (26-0, 16 KO) is managed by Al Haymon, who also handles Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO), which may mean there is some inside resistance to actually making this fight happen. Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer has repeatedly said he's working on the fight, but a proposed September 7 date is off, and there has been no concrete evidence that the fight is actually close to happening.
Judah (42-8, 29 KO) was recently considered for a fight in Washington, D.C., against Lamont Peterson, but that fell through, too. We also heard some talk out of Brooklyn this weekend that Judah's team were talking about a Garcia rematch as though it was going to happen this fall.
If Garcia fights Judah instead of Matthysse, does your view of him drop? Is this anything more than a duck move, in theory?
