Ishe Smith is out of what was to be his first IBF junior middleweight title defense on July 19, citing an injury suffered in training camp. There's no word if the Friday night Showtime card will still go ahead with two fights, Mickey Bey vs John Molina and Badou Jack vs Farah Ennis. Certainly, there have been worse Friday night cards, so hopefully the event itself will go through.
Smith (25-5, 11 KO) won the belt in February from Cornelius Bundrage, the first world title for the 34-year-old Las Vegas native, which also made him Vegas' first world champion.
Smith didn't specify the injury, but said he will post a photo to his Twitter account in the coming days. He was to face Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6 KO), a fighter who has had similar hard luck decision losses in his career, in what was a unique matchup of guys who have continued to press forward where others may have scaled back their dedication to the sport.
The fight, it appears, will be rescheduled.
