FOX Sports 1 will launch as a new competitor to ESPN on August 17, and Golden Boy boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez is part of the channel's "Happy Days Are Here Again" launch commercial.
Golden Boy will be a content contributor for the new network, with a Monday night boxing series as a featured program. There will be 24 episodes live per year on FS1, and 48 on FOX Deportes, which is up from 36. There will also be classic Golden Boy fights aired on the channel, including fights from Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Alvarez, Bernard Hopkins, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Shane Mosley, among others.
What kind of fights will be seen on the series is unknown, but an educated guess would be that we'll see pretty much standard FOX Sports/Deportes-type fights continuing on with the new series. It is nice that we'll see boxing regularly on a night that isn't Friday or Saturday, though.
To date, my favorite thing about FOX Sports 1 is that UFC will air live cards on the channel, under titles like UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, and UFC on FOX Sports 1 2.
