Dereck Chisora will look to score his biggest win in years today as he takes on Malik Scott in an intriguing heavyweight main event at Wembley Arena, the fight scheduled for 10 rounds on BoxNation. On the undercard, middleweight Billy Joe Saunders leads the action against Gary O'Sullivan. The fights start live at 3:00 pm EDT this afternoon.
Chisora (16-4, 10 KO) is just 2-4 in his last six fights, though it's easily argued that he should have left with a win over Robert Helenius in 2011. His only official wins since 2010 have come against Remigijus Ziausys and Hector Avila, neither of whom were expected to put up much of a fight, and didn't.
Scott (35-0-1, 12 KO) is often bagged on for being a boring heavyweight, but no matter how you slice it, the 32-year-old American is a very tough on-paper matchup for the pressure specialist Chisora. Scott's boxing skills are strong, and the only blemish on his record is a disputed draw last time out against Vyacheslav Glazkov.
The winner will stay in the mix at heavyweight, where the likes of Mariusz Wach and Jean-Marc Mormeck can be "in the mix" in any given month these days, while the loser takes a big step back. And for Chisora, a fifth loss in this fight would possibly spell career doom, making him sort of a heavyweight version of Edison Miranda or Ricardo Mayorga, a guy who can talk the talk before the fight and little more when in against good fighters.
Saunders (17-0, 10 KO) also finds himself in an interesting matchup today against O'Sullivan (16-0, 10 KO), a fellow unbeaten middleweight prospect. The 29-year-old O'Sullivan, nicknamed the "Celtic Rebel," doesn't have the pedigree of the 23-year-old Saunders nor the promotional backing and hype, but he's yet to taste defeat. If nothing else, this is a decent little risk for Saunders to be taking with a September 21 fight against John Ryder already scheduled.
Also featured on today's undercard will be Frank Buglioni, Bradley Saunders, Bradley Skeete, and many more.
