Tonight at 9:00 pm EDT on ESPN2, Friday Night Fights is back with a doubleheader from the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, Calif., featuring super featherweight contender Juan Carlos Burgos in the night's main event.
Burgos (30-1-1, 20 KO) is coming off of a disputed draw with WBO titlist Rocky Martinez in January, and tonight will face Yakubu Amidu (20-4-1, 18 KO), a replacement opponent for Daulis Prescott, the originally scheduled opponent. Since Amidu couldn't make 130 pounds, Burgos did accept the move up to the lightweight division, which his team says will be a one-off, as he'll return to super featherweight after this bout.
Amidu has lost two straight and really doesn't have anything you'd call a good win, so he is a pretty sizable underdog here. This should be a win tonight for Burgos, in other words.
In the co-feature, Brazil's Josenilson dos Santos (26-1, 16 KO) will face Miguel Gonzalez (21-3, 15 KO) in a 10-round lightweight bout. Dos Santos is not a familiar figure for FNF viewers, but Gonzalez is, as he's coming off of a win over Miguel Acosta in May on the series, and a shutout loss last year against Mike Dallas Jr, also a FNF bout.
