USBA and NABF vs other regional titles..

Scott's comments on his podcast about 'belts that don't mean anything' on US broadcasts..

So a Japanese fighter could win JBC then OPBF and it would matter..
A British fighter could go British, Commonwealth, to EBU title and it would matter..
An American boxer wins the USBA to NABF and nobody cares. lol.

I've often found myself wondering WHY that is..

If I have to venture a guess, I'd say 'length of time' and 'population size.'

The USBA belt in red and NABF belt in green below ..

These are the creation dates of the following belts..

British title - 1884
Commonwealth tile - 1892
EBU - 1909

JBC - 1927
OPBF - 1952

USBA - 1974
NABF - 1969

The reason I chose the USBA and NABF is because they are the oldest two ...

Oh, and for those that aren't aware, each of the 4 recognized sanctioning bodies has their own version of the USA and North American titles.. except the WBO..

WBC has..
USNBC - 2005
NABF - 1969

WBA has..
NABA - 1997
NABA-US - 2008

IBF has..
IBF North American - 2007
USBA - 1974

WBO has..
NABO - 1994
..no American belt..

So I think the British and Japanese titles matter more because they're older. But also because geographically and population-wise, the areas are much smaller than the USA. So, for example, if someone won the JBC belt in Japan, the amount of distance and amount of people the news would have to travel to would be smaller, thus easier to spread the news around.

Just my thoughts... how about you guys?
