Tomorrow night on Showtime, Abner Mares defends his WBC featherweight title in the main event against former titlist Jhonny Gonzalez in the main event of Showtime Championship Boxing. Today, the fighters hit the scales at 3:00 pm EDT, and you can watch the show right here on Bad Left Hook.
In tomorrow night's co-feature, Victor Terrazas will also be putting a WBC title on the line, as his super bantamweight belt is up for grabs against rising star Leo Santa Cruz, in what will be a step-up fight for Santa Cruz, as well. BLH will have live round-by-round coverage tomorrow night starting at 10:30 pm EDT.
Mares (26-0-1, 14 KO) is coming off of a ninth round stoppage of Daniel Ponce De Leon on May 4, where he won the belt. He's now a three-division titleholder at age 27, and has emerged as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. Gonzalez (54-8, 46 KO) has won two fights since losing the belt to Ponce De Leon in September 2012, escaping with a debatable win over Eusebio Osejo in February, and then stopping Akihiko Katagiri in April.
Terrazas (37-2-1, 21 KO) won his title in April against Cristian Mijares, in what was a fight for the belt left vacant by Mares when he moved up to featherweight. Santa Cruz has enjoyed breakout success on Showtime airwaves since last year, beating Vusi Malinga, Eric Morel, Victor Zaleta, Alberto Guevara, and Alexander Munoz.
