Mayweather vs Canelo weigh-in results: Fighters make weight, but how did Canelo look on the scales?

Ethan Miller

At a sold-out weigh-in filling the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the atmosphere was heavy, but the fighters were not. I'll show myself out...

Over 12,000 fans packed the MGM Grand today as the full arena was opened up for the weigh-in, and they responded big time when the main event fighters hit the scales. There is some debate as to how Canelo Alvarez looked, but the good news is that he made the weight, coming in at the limit of 152 pounds even.

Mayweather, as expected, was a bit under, weighing in at 150½. When the two went face-to-face, Mayweather jawed, talked, chewed his gum, and tried to break the kid, as he was able to do eventually last year against Miguel Cotto. But Alvarez, at 23 and on this level of stage for the first time, simply kept his eyes locked and returned Mayweather's trash talk with a smile.

As for how Canelo looked, that's up for some discussion. Some felt he looked "ripped" and "shredded," but to me he looked a little thin, and very possibly dried out. The worst sign for me, personally, was seeing how chapped Alvarez's lips were. I could be totally wrong about all this, but he was thinner than I've ever seen him before. We'll see tomorrow night if the weight cut has hurt him, but either way, he signed up for the weight. He knew what making 152 would entail. If he's good, then he's good. If he's not, then he's not.

Folks, we're almost there. It's all over but the fighting.

For the main undercard bout, Danny Garcia (26-0, 16 KO) missed weight initially by a half pound, coming in at 140½, but did make the 140-pound limit just moments later. Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO) weighed in at 140 pounds on the nose, then gave Garcia the death eyes during their stare down.
