Mayweather - Khan, Rumors for 5/14

I had postulated earlier that Khan-Alexander talks were intentionally stalled in the hopes that Amir Khan could go straight to the money match with the P4P champ, Floyd Mayweather. We have yet to hear of any formalization of Khan-Alexander and there are now internet rumors that the fight is off. What we would be getting instead:

Alexander-Judah/Malignaggi-Porter co-feature in Brooklyn on Dec 7 2013

Mayweather-Khan in Vegas on May 3 2014

Stylistically and for entertainment purposes I would rather see Khan-Mayweather than the very poorly marketable and less exciting Mayweather-Alexander. I think there are fair arguments that Khan hasn't earned the opportunity given his last wins were over Carlos Molina (a lightweight) and an escape from an aging Julio Diaz. However, from the Khan camp's perspective this makes a lot of financial sense. I think we do get robbed of a Khan-Alexander fight but saved from potential Mayweather-Alexander ugliness.

Of course, Mayweather has other options than just Khan or Alexander but I'm not sure who is actually realistic. Hopkins is too big, Martinez is locked into HBO, Pacquiao is locked into Arum, and GGG is too big/HBO/not big enough name (yet).

I'm guessing if this comes to fruition there will be an article in the main blog soon. Thoughts?
