To me and I'm quite sure a nice proportion of people would agree, that a World Champion is exactly what the title describes... THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD. I believe the main issue in boxing now is that every weight class has 5 champions of the world. To me this has not only ruined what it means to be a champion but also has slightly destroyed the way this competition runs. Besides the fact that the weigh in has been changed to the day before a fight instead of the day of, because "we can't eat breakfast in order to make weight blah blah blah" my reply is simply FIGHT AT YOUR NATURAL WEIGHT.. BOOM fixes that issue. Back to topic, If they revived the old school 1 world champion belt in each class or even 2 at the most, everyone would have no choice but to fight the best of the best and it would be fierce competition year-round. Combine this with the same day weigh-ins and we will truly discover who is who in every division and there would be no way any longer to milk the system for any unfair advantages and there would be no DUCKING because you wont have 5 champions of the world all claiming to be the best of their division, in each division, but choosing not to defend or fight the other "world champions" in their same weight. They would be constantly tasked with defending against the next best in line no matter what!
Imagine what a world that would be..and unfortunately for me I'm gonna continue to dream of it almost knowing that it will probably never happen. Anyways just something that has been irking me for some time and felt like I wanted some other opinions on this. Apologies if this isnt the most grammatically sound post.. not too great at that but thank you for reading, would like some feedback.
