Hugo "The Boss" Centeno Jr improved to 22-0 (12 KO) with a fifth round knockout of James De La Rosa tonight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, pretty much dominating the fighter who had come in off of a win over Alfredo Angulo in September.
Centeno, 23, dropped De La Rosa (23-3, 13 KO) in the first round, and pretty much had his way in this fight, showing superior speed, power, size, and skill. The prospect took a nice step forward in his journey with this win, and the knockout was a beauty, as he caught De La Rosa coming in with a great left hand that hurt him, buckled him, and dropped him, all in one complex motion. The count was waived by referee Pete Santiago, as De La Rosa fell face first to the canvas.
What did you think of Centeno tonight? Is this a potential star in the 154-pound division, and could we be looking at a contender in 2015?
