Tonight at 7:00 pm EDT on Showtime Extreme, and then continuing at 9:00 pm EDT on Showtime, Golden Boy presents a four-fight card from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, as Danny Garcia looks to impress the hardcore fight fans on the island where his parents were born, defending the junior welterweight championship against Mauricio Herrera.
Garcia (27-0, 16 KO) is a huge favorite in tonight's main event, so much so that Herrera (20-3, 7 KO) is really considered no more than a stay-busy or tune-up opponent on paper, more a means to get Garcia into the Puerto Rican market than giving Garcia a credible opponent. But Herrera is a tough fighter who does have a win over Ruslan Provodnikov, and hung in with Mike Alvarado, despite losing widely.
In the Showtime co-feature, Deontay Wilder (30-0, 30 KO) will look to notch what would be easily a career-best win against friend and former sparring partner Malik Scott (36-1-1, 13 KO), a savvy, crafty, and skilled veteran heavyweight who is a dangerous foe for the thus far one-dimensional "Bronze Bomber." This is a legitimate proving grounds fight for the 28-year-old Alabaman.
Before those fights air on Showtime, the Canelo-Angulo replay from last week's Showtime pay-per-view will be shown. And prior to all of that, Showtime Extreme will have two fights start at 7:00 pm EDT.
In the main SHO Extreme bout, Juan Manuel Lopez (33-3, 30 KO) looks to resurrect his career and go 2-for-2 against Daniel Ponce De Leon (45-5, 35 KO) in a 10-round super featherweight matchup. The two first met back in June 2008, when Lopez knocked out Ponce De Leon in the first round to lift a super bantamweight title. They've both been up and down the road in the five-plus years since that fight.
Also featured on SHO Extreme will be middleweight prospect/contender Danny Jacobs (26-1, 23 KO), who continues his incredible comeback journey against very limited slugger Milton Nunez (26-9-1, 24 KO). Smart money is on something exciting and brief in this one, as Jacobs continues to chase after a possible shot at Peter Quillin and the WBO middleweight title.
We'll be here with live coverage and immediate post-fight analysis four all four bouts. Join us this evening!
