I'm currently rewatching Dmitry Pirog's fight against Danny Jacobs, and kind of in awe at great he looked. I read that he was set to fight GGG a while back but injured his back. Also, I remember was a real stand out fighter in the middleweight division when it had been emptied of the Pavlik/Sturm/Abraham vortex. So what's the deal with him? Was the Ishida fight in 2012 really the last time he fought? I would pick him over Macklin, Jacobs again, and I think he would give a stern (or Sturm!) fight against Sturm, Maritnez, GGG, or any other contender. I read that he's been stripped of his WBO Middleweight title when he decided to take the fight with GGG, and now he has nothing.
I think he has a good deal of science: good combination of punches and angles on those punches, good at finding range, good head movement, intelligent, offensive, and could possibly have the "X" factor if he is given the chance.
Is he semi-retired, does he have promotional issues, or is he heavily avoided? What's the deal? Upon rewatching him I'd say I'm a fan.
