The cheetahpants March 2014 Boxing Rankings

Hey guys.

Since finding out today that the BLH rankings are gone, thought I might just pop this out there for shits, giggles, and discussion.

THOUGHT #1: Make the titlists separate. Why? So we can rank more guys. OH NO I'VE BECOME LIKE THE SANCTIONING BODIES~ #wretched

But no, at the end of the day, these guys are IBHoF recognized world champions, so.

I however will not be recognizing "Interim" or "Regular" or "Emeritus" or "Silver" champions or any of that silliness.

THOUGHT #2: How did I make these rankings? By going down Boxrec and using a little common sense. Like for example Boxrec has Arreola over Stiverne even tho Stiverne beat Arreola. So I wouldn't be going along with such logic as the only thing that changed between hither-and-yon was Arreola blew out a grossly overmatched Seth Mitchell.

WBA/WBO/IBF: Wladimir Klitscko

WBC: VACANT [winner of Stiverne vs Arreola II]

#1. Kubrat Pulev

#2. Tyson Fury

#3. Vyacheslav Glazkov

#4. Dereck Chisora

#5. Deontay Wilder

#6. Tony Thompson

#7. Bryant Jennings

#8. Carlos Takam

#9. Andy Ruiz

#10. Lucas Browne

* Typically I wouldn't do this, but really.. who has an argument to be ranked #8-#10, and in what order? Really, anyone you like. Is it Andy Ruiz? Is it Carlos Takam? Is it Lucas Browne? Is it Amir Mansour? Man, I dunno. According to Boxrec, it's Christian Hammer, Andy Ruiz, and Mike Perez. But I had Perez losing to Takam. And I have a hard time ranking a guy (Christian Hammer) who is 15-3 at #9 in the world. BOXING~

* As far as why I didn't rank Arreola or Stiverne. Under my system, the winner will be a world champion and therefore unranked.. and unless it's a bullshit robbery loss, the loser will probably tumble out of the top#10 and probably be unranked. So I'm waiting to see how that one shakes up.

* Alexander Povetkin - Dude hasn't fought in 7 months with absolutely nothing planned, and split from his promoter before/during his big fight. He got pretty well dominated by Wlad, and he looks to maybe be on ice for a bit.

* Tomasz Adamek - I had him losing pretty handily to Glazkov. He may have a few fights left, but at what level? He might also hang them up. Who knows.

* Odlanier Solis - Losing to Thompson is pretty much the end of Solis as at the top level, but Heavyweight is so weak, I'm sure he could squeak back in with a win at some point.

* Johnathon Banks - hasn't fought in 9 months, after losing oddly to Mitchell. I don't think he's going to fight again - he seems pretty happy just training Wlad.

* Mike Perez - His last fight was ruled a draw, but I had him losing to Takam. Your mileage may vary, on Perez.

IBF: Yoan Hernandez

WBO: Marco Huck

WBC: Krzysztof Wlodarczyk

WBA: Denis Lebedev

#1. Guillermo Jones

#2. Thabiso Mchunu

#3. Ola Afolabi

#4. Grigory Drozd

#5. Tony Bellew

#6. Ilunga Makabu

#7. Danie Venter

#8. Pawel Kolodziej

#9. Rakhim Chakhiev

#10. Yunier Dorticos

* Eddie Chambers - seems his next fight is at Heavyweight.

* Strange situation of Lebedev and Jones. Jones won. But tested positive for a banned substance. So the WBA stripped Jones and gave the title back to Lebedev. However the fight wasn't ruled a "NC" by the Russian commission. But they're having a rematch. So basically.. Lebedev has the belt despite losing, and Jones is the #1 contender despite cheating. GO FIGURE, BOXING.

IBF: Bernard Hopkins

WBC: Adonis Stevenson

WBO: Sergey Kovalev

WBA: Beibut Shumenov

#1. Jean Pascal

#2. Isaac Chilemba

#3. Andrzej Fonfara

#4. Juergen Braehmer

#5. Blake Caparello

#6. Eleider Alvarez

#7. Thomas Williams

#8. Enzo Maccarinelli

#9. Cedric Agnrew

#10. Dmitry Sukhotsky

* Man, I had no idea how 'weak' light-heavyweight was until I found myself ranking Maccarinelli and Sukhotsky as "top 10 in the world light-heavyweights."

* Chad Dawson hasn't won a fight in 2 years with nothing scheduled.

* Where does Lucian Bute go from here? Back down to 168lbs? Retirement? Who knows.

* Will Tavoris Cloud ever fight again? Pretty much three straight losses for him at this point, including the Gabe Campillo fight.

* Also a note that since Kovalev vs Agnew is tomorrow, this could change on a dime ... if Agnrew gets knocked out of the top#10, #11 is Robert Berridge of New Zealand.

WBA: Andre Ward

IBF: Carl Froch

WBO: Arthur Abraham

WBC: Sakio Bika

#1. George Groves

#2. James DeGale

#3. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

#4. Jose Uzcategui

#5. Fedor Chudinov

#6. Brandon Gonzales

#7. Maxim Vlasov

#8. Christopher Rebrasse

#9. Marco Antonio Periban

#10. J'Leon Love

* HAHA according to Boxrec, Chavez would be the #1 contender over Groves and DeGale. HAHA NO~

* I have Groves ranked at #1 since I had him soundly beating Froch.

* I have DeGale ranked underneath, despite him having beaten Groves in their first fight, by my scoring. However, boxing is all "what have you done for me lately" and since then.. Groves gave Froch a pasting, and DeGale has kinda waffled around fighting Johnny Nobody.

* Stieglitz lost his last fight pretty badly. Not sure what's next for him.

* Kessler hasn't fought for 10 months with nothing planned.

* Rodriguez lost to Andre Ward, and his next move is purportedly to 175lbs. But after 5 months, nothing scheduled.

* Oosthuizen was apparently moving up to 175lbs, but then got dropped by his promoter. So he might be out of the sport, so who knows.

* Anthony Dirrell's last fight was a draw, but I had him losing to Bika..

* Maderna lost his last fight.

* I assume Brian Vera is going back down to 160lbs.

* Periban's last two fight made him 0-1-1, but I had Periban winning against Badou Jack. I may be alone here on that one.

* Man, Supermiddleweight is light at the top.

WBC: Sergio Martinez

WBA: Gennady Golovkin

IBF: Felix Sturm

WBO: Peter Quillin

#1. Daniel Geale

#2. Sam Soliman

#3. Martin Murray

#4. Marco Antonio Rubio

#5. Matthew Macklin

#6. Hassan N'Dam

#7. Lukas Konecny

#8. Jarrod Fletcher

#9. Matt Korobov

#10. Jorge Heiland

* I'm sure someone's going to say "where is Curtis Stevens?" Well he will probably find himself here if he beats Tureano Johnson in a week.

* Really wish Murray could leave his country to fight. It really limits his options.

WBA/WBC: Floyd Mayweather

IBF: Carlos Molina

WBO: Demetrius Andrade

#1. Canelo Alvarez

#2. Erislandy Lara

#3. Anthony Mundine

#4. K9 Bundrage

#5. Jermell Charlo

#6. Vanes Martirosyan

#7. James Kirkland

#8. Brian Rose

#9. Willie Nelson

#10. Sergey Rabchenko

* Miguel Cotto would be ranked, but he's fighting at 160lbs next. I'd rank him at 160, but he has to actually beat someone first.

* Ishe Smith has a fight coming up against Lara that could find him ranked if he wins.

* Whether or not you thought Austin Trout beat Canelo, that fight was 11 months ago. His only outing since then was getting totally dominated by Erislandy Lara. If he gets a win, he's back in.

* Willie Nelson's future includes a move to 160lbs.. but again, you have to beat someone.

* We live in a world where Anthony Mundine is the #3 154lber in the world. Why do I rank him that high? Well glancing down the list below him.. who would you pick to "for sure" beat Mundine if they fought? For me, just Kirkland, really. I think Jermell would probably beat Mundine as well.. but I also wouldn't be shocked if Mundine pulled off the upset. Bundrage, Martirosyan, and Rose have been relatively unimpressive as of late. So anyway.. yeah. Mundine is a top#10 154ber. This is hilarious to me.

WBC: Floyd Mayweather

WBO: Timothy Bradley

WBA: Marcos Maidana

IBF: Shawn Porter

#1. Manny Pacquiao

#2. Kell Brook

#3. Keith Thurman

#4. Paulie Malignaggi

#5. Leonard Bundu

#6. Chris van Heerden

#7. Carlos Abregu

#8. Randall Bailey

#9. Frankie Gavin

#10. Ray Robinson

* ugggh according to my rankings both Randall Bailey and Ray Robinson are top#10 welterweights ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh~

* Probably lots of omissions here sure to rile some people up.

* Marquez last fight was a loss to Bradley. His next fight is against Alvarado at Welterweight. My argument is this.. his last fight was a loss, and if Alvarado beats him, would YOU still rank him top#10 at 147lbs?

* Guerrero hasn't fought in almost a year with nothing planned, after his blowout loss to Floyd.

* Alexander's only fight in the last 11 months was a pretty wide loss to Porter, and he has nothing planned.

* Broner got fairly well dominated by Maidana, and I had him losing to Paulie as well. What does his future hold? Is he going back to 140lbs? Who knows, but first he needs to NOT look like dogshit against Carlos Molina The Lightweight. Not too tall an order.

* Brandon Rios has lost both of his last fights, barely made weight, and tested positive for a banned substance in China. Who knows what is next for him. Maybe a third fight with Alvarado.

* Soto Karass could be back in here with a win.

WBA/WBC: Danny Garcia

WBO: Ruslan Provodnikov

IBF: Lamont Peterson

#1. Jessie Vargas

#2. Viktor Postol

#3. Amir Khan

#4. Khabib Allakhverdiev

#5. Antonio DeMarco

#6. Humberto Soto

#7. Mauricio Herrera

#8. Selcuk Aydin

#9. Cesar Cuenca

#10. Fernando Angulo

* Herrrera is an odd case. I had him beating Garcia, but Boxrec did give him a ton of points for that loss. So I guess the question is "where did you rank him before?"

* Amir Khan's next fight is obviously at 147lbs but he needs to win it to be in it, lol.

* Matthyse is a noticeable omission, but he needs to beat John-John in a month to be rated by me. Nothing against him - but if he took back to back losses to Garcia and John Molina, would you rank him? Crazier things have happened. He'd be #1 contender again with a win.

* Mike Alvarado's next fight is at Welterweight against Marquez.

* ugh jessie vargas is the #1 contender~

IBF: Miguel Vazquez

WBO: Terence Crawford

WBA: Richar Abril

WBC: Omar Figueroa

#1. Ray Beltran

#2. Yuriorkis Gamboa

#3. Hank Lundy

#4. Daniel Estrada

#5. Rustam Nugaev

#6. Miguel Roman

#7. Paulus Moses

#8. Ammeth Diaz

#9. Xolisani Ndongeni

#10. Edis Tatli

* Technically, Boxrec has Gamboa over Beltran.. but I had Beltran beating Burns, and Gamboa's only fight at Lightweight was less than impressive.

* Ricky Burns will be re-ranked I guess if he wins a fight. He hasn't really looked good against Crawford, Beltran, or Chepo Gonzalez..

* Denis Shafikov would be ranked except he got pretty one-sidedly dominated by Vazquez.

* I'd love to rank John Molina, Sergio Thompson, and Jorge Linares... even Takahiro Ao.. but they're too far down. Who the hell are Xolisani Ndongeni and Edis Tatli? Oh well, somebody fight each other~

WBO: Mikey Garcia

WBA: Takashi Uchiyama

WBC: Takashi Miura

IBF: Argenis Mendez

#1. Orlando Salido

#2. Juanma Lopez

#3. Satoshi Hosono

#4. Javier Fortuna

#5. Diego Magdaleno

#6. Rances Barthelemy

#7. Stephen Smith

#8. Fernando Montiel

#9. Jerry Belmontes

#10. Jomthong Chuwatana

* So apparently Mendez loss to Barthelemy was ruled a NC and his belt returned. Cool.

* Salido's next fight will presumably be at 130lbs. I had him beating Lomachenko so.

* Juanma's back!

* Kaneko would be ranked with a win.

* I had Usmanee beating Barthelemy but losing to Mendez, so he'll be back with a win.

* Jardon will be back with a win.

* I'm not sure who Jomthong Chuwatana is, but Boxrec would have him ranked #3. in the world despite being 7-0. I'll put him in at #10, but I have no idea who this guy is or what he did to get this high up. Apparently him beating Dong-Hyuk Kim and Ronald Pontillas made Boxrec shit itself in ecstacy.

WBC: Jhonny Gonzalez

WBA: Simpiwe Vetyeka

IBF: Evgeny Gradovich

#1. Nonito Donaire

#2. Celestino Caballero

#3. Rene Alvarado

#4. Hisashi Amagasa

#5. Lee Selby

#6. Nicholas Walters

#7. Jorge Arce

#8. Jesus Galicia

#9. Marvin Sonsosa

#10. Ronny Rios

* Would totally love to rank Mares, but his only fight in 11 months was that round one KO to Gonzalez, and he has absolutely nothing scheduled.

* WBO title is supposedly up for grabs between Gary Russell and Vasyl Lomachenko. Doubt that fight happens due to rival networks/promoters. Let's see.

WBA/WBO: Guillermo Rigondeaux

WBC: Leo Santa Cruz

IBF: Kiko Martinez

#1. Carl Frampton

#2. Chris Avalos

#3. Shingo Wake

#4. Thabo Sonjica

#5. Hidenori Otake

#6. Scott Quigg

#7. Hugo Cazares

#8. Wilfredo Vazquez

#9. Efrain Esquivias

#10. Andres Gutierrez

* Mijares, Darchinyan, Terrazas, Nakajima, and Mathebula could all be back ranked with wins.

WBC: Shinsuke Yamanaka

WBA: Anselmo Moreno

WBO: Tomoki Kameda

IBF: Stuart Hall

#1. Liborio Solis

#2. Ryosuke Iwasa

#3. Rodrigo Guerrero

#4. Malcolm Tunacao

#5. Hugo Ruiz

#6. Felipe Orucuta

#7. Pungluang Sor Singyu

#8. Marvin Mabait

#9. Tomas Rojas

#10. Julio Ceja

* Poor poor Jamie McDonnell.

WBO: Omar Narvaez

WBA: Kohei Kono

WBC: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai

#1. Zolani Tete

#2. Carlos Cuadras

#3. David Sanchez

#4. Oleydong Sithsamerchai

#5. Arthur Villanueva

#6. Toshiyuki Igarashi

#7. Teiru Kinoshita

#8. Mark Geraldo

#9. Edrin Dapudong

#10. Yohei Tobe

* Not sure what is worse.. typing the Thai names, the Japanese names, or the Filipino names.

* SOOO Daiki Kameda retained his IBF title, despite losing badly to Liborio Solis, because Solis did not make weight. Then he vacated the title like a man and said "I lost, I need to get better." That's awesome. More of that. Timmy Bradley should have done this. If he wins he's back in, but I'll be honest - Kameda just looked small at the weight, no pun intended.

* Apparently, Juan Carlos Sanchez, Nobuo Nashiro, Hiroyuki Hisataka, and Denkaosan Kaovichit would be ranked again if they notched a win.

WBA/WBO: Juan Francisco Estrada

WBC: Akira Yaegashi

IBF: Amnat Ruenroeng

#1. Giovani Segura

#2. Roman Gonzalez

#3. Juan Carlos Reveco

#4. Luis Concepcion

#5. Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep

#6. Sugura Muranaka

#7. Milan Melindo

#8. Moruti Mthalane

#9. Adrin Diale

#10. Rey Megrino

* Yodmong- oh fuck this, -copy paste-

* I cannot in good conscience rank a guy who is 20-20-3 at #4 in the world. So Megrino gets dumped down to #10. Sorry not sorry. Someone tell me if he should REALLY be there at #4.

* Viloria, Sosa, Rocky Fuentes, Takuya Kogawa, Tyson Marquez, and Odilon Zaleta would find themselves back in the top#10 with a win.

WBC: Adrian Hernandez

IBF: John Casimero

WBO: Donnie Nietes

WBA: Alberto Rossel (interim)

#1. Pedro Guevara

#2. Ganigan Lopez

#3. Rey Loreto

#4. Naoya Inoue

#5. Kazuto Ioka

#6. Moises Fuentes

#7. Raul Garcia

#8. Ramon Hirales

#9. Fahlan Sakkreerin

#10. Paipharob Kokietgym

* Rossell is the WBA champ despite being the interim cuz there is no "Super" or "Regular" champ.

* Joyi, Miyazaki, and Mario Rodriguez would be ranked with a win.

IBF: Katsunari Takayama

WBA: Hekkie Budler

WBC: Oswaldo Novoa

WBO: Francisco Rodriguez

#1. Jesus Silvestre

#2. Wanheng Menayothin

#3. Ali Raymi

#4. Ryuji Hara

#5. Florante Condes

#6. Simphiwe Khonco

#7. Go Odaira

#8. Leroy Estrada

#9. Byron Rojas

#10. Pigmy Kokietgym

* Denver Cuello, Xiong Zhao Zhong, Carlos Buitrago, Pornsawan Porpramook, Merlito Sabillo, Mateo Handing, and Edwin Diaz would all be ranked with wins.

So that's it! Let's have funnnn~ talking about these things yes.
