Canelo vs Angulo weights: Fighters make weight for Showtime PPV card

Canelo Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo both made weight (sort of) today for tomorrow night's Showtime pay-per-view event, and the undercard is good to go, as well.

Be not fooled, #boxingfriends! Today's weigh-in might have seemed to lack drama, but it had some behind the scenes. Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reported via Twitter prior to the main event fighters stepping to the scales that Canelo Alvarez was not going to make the 154-pound limit, and that he would pay Alfredo Angulo a $100,000 penalty fee to keep the fight on.

The contract, however, said 154 plus one, so 155 was an acceptable weight, and that's what Canelo weighed in at, so he was technically good to go. Rafael says that Canelo's team was so worried about the weight that they made the deal with Angulo, hedging their bets, so to speak. But it doesn't sound like Angulo will get that $100K. Anyway, we have a fight.

Undercard weights: Leo Santa Cruz and Cristian Mijares both weighed in at 122 pounds for their WBC super bantamweight title fight ... Jorge Linares and Nihito Arakawa each weighed 134½ for their lightweight bout ... and Ricardo Alvarez and Sergio Thompson came in at 135 on the nose for their lightweight fight, which will now open the PPV card with Molina-Charlo canceled.
