Marcos Maidana has pulled out of his scheduled May 3rd bout against Floyd Mayweather due to complications arising with his family. The complications at this point are undisclosed, however Golden Boy will be honouring 10% of the purse, so it must be something serious. With short notice, Golden Boy Promotions has chosen to slate Adrien Broner for the bout against Mayweather.
"The rift between Mayweather and Broner had been growing, and this bout will be sure to bring action." Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer stated at an impromptu press conference this morning. "Broner is a great fighter, and we all know that the only way to beat Floyd Mayweather is to do what he odes but better."
Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya said "I will be giving my gameplan to Adrien Broner, and he will use it to finally dethrone Floyd Mayewather."
Personally, I think that it's not really credible to have someone who lost to Marcos Maidana fight Mayweather, but it'll be fun to see, and at least we still get the date saved.
