Anthony Crolla (27(10)-4(1)-1) - Height 5'8.5'' - Reach 67'' - 27 years old - Manchester, UK
John Murray (33(20)-2(2)-0) - Height 5'8'' - Reach 70'' - 29 years old - Manchester, UK
Old friends will be opponents on April 19 when British lightweights Anthony Crolla and John Murray meet in their home city of Manchester, with most people making it a 50-50 fight even though Murray has the higher level experience.
Crolla is considered to the be man on form having won four of his last five and drawn the other one against Derry Mathews in a Commenwealth title fight. The run has seen Crolla win the English lightweight strap against Kieran Farrell and the WBO Inter-Continental belt against Gavin Rees.
Crolla has four defeats on his sheet though, including one from early in his career, two inflicted by Gary Sykes, and Derry Mathews stopped Crolla in the sixth round when they met for the first time in 2012.
Murray only has two defeats but because he was stopped so brutally both times it is believed by some that he is no longer the man who was British and European champion over seven fights between 2008 and 2011. The defeats, both in 2011, were by Kevin Mitchell in round eight and Brandon Rios, for the world title, by 11th round stoppage.
Murray came back last year and has fought already in 2014, winning both by ko, and before his defeats Murray won seven out of 10 by stoppage. There is little statistical difference between the size of the opponents or their age and experience, but Murray has undoubtedly mixed it at a higher level.
