I know that this is not boxing, but we've been interested in events in Ukraine because of Vitali Klitschko's involvement in politics there.
And I think Vitali's involvement won't end, because it looks as though the confectioner billionaire Petro Poroshenko has won, according to exit polls. The elections were a chaotic shambles in the pro-Russian East.
He was the favorite all along, because he's a moderate, middle-of-the-road candidate, with a reputation for compromise. But, he's pro-Europe in his economic policies, from what I understand, and the situation I think is now very tense. Putin has promised to respect the election results, and has claimed that he's not trying to reconstruct the Soviet Union.
I think this puts Klitschko in a good position, because while he was radically anti-Russian, he was in the forefront for a brief time in the opposition to Russian dominance.
I don't think his political career is even close to done.
