Al Haymon signed Mexican IBF Lightweight titlist Miguel Vazquez, as well as Armenian Light Middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan over the weekend.
David Haye and Anthony Joshua hung out, apparently.
African Cruiserweight contender Ilunga Makabu stopped Glen Johnson over the weekend. I haven't seen any footage, and probably never will since the fight took place in the Congo, so take that for what it is worth.
Apparently Ricky Burns is so done that they're considering a fight with Scott Harrison quite seriously at this point.
Jhonny Gonzalez vs Rocky Juarez for the WBC Featherweight championship in September? I think it should be fun.
Narvaez vs Orucuta is actually a fairly decent fight. Not the best fight that can be made, but not terrible.
I was thinking about this yesterday. Right now, the WBC looks like this..
CHAMPION: Miguel Cotto
#1. Marco Antonio Rubio
#2. Martin Murray
So what do you think? Do you think Cotto defends against Rubio? Do you think he vacates?
Who do you think wins between Rubio and Murray? My gut says Murray, but Rubio has upset apple carts before.
:/ Bika and Anthony Dirrell gonna have a rematch. I didn't think the first fight was particularly close. I think I had it.. 9-3 for Bika? Definitely not thrilled about this.
WBA creating more worthless belts.
Haha, fuck you David Haye. I gotta say, I do not like Tyson Fury, but I feel bad for the guy for wasting like almost an entire year training to fight a guy who apparently never had any intentions to fight him.
As expected, Mayweather Promotions hired former GBP COO Binkow. Leonard Ellerbe trying to get them legit and off the ground to where they can host cards without GBP help. I fully expect Schaefer to join Mayweather Promotions once his non-compete clause expires.
Kovalev is going to start getting a push from the HBO hype machine.
Oh, NOW he wants to fight Garcia?
Vargas submitting to VADA testing. Isn't it odd how all the guys being tested by VADA have no punching power at all? Bradley, Vargas..
Well I guess Donaire thumps pretty good.
This fight is still happening. I wish nothing but the best for Katsidis. I feel bad for the whole sport through, digging up the bones of Graham Earl.
Macklin making a smart move and ditching his minor league New York based promoter for a minor league British based promoter.
In a somewhat baffling move, Paul Butler dropped the IBF bantamweight title to move back down to Super Flyweight. On that same note, the vacant title will apparently be contested between Julio Ceja and Randy Caballero..
Lucas Browne fighting a guy not even ranked top#100 in the world on Boxrec.
Well, Carl Frampton is now on record as saying "Kiko Martinez is a much tougher fight than Leo Santa Cruz."
Wow. Really? Rematching a guy you already beat is easier than... ? No. Just no.
Lebedev's promoter is suing Don King for the farce that was the canceled rematch between Guillermo Jones and Denis Lebedev. Good luck with that one.
Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham set for the WBO 168lb world title in September.
Molina vs Bundrage for the IBF Light Middleweight title set for September 6th.
Despite getting beaten into retirement by Chavez Jr back in 2011, Manfredo had three wins against tomato cans since then. But having not fought in 6 months, I guess he really decided to hang them up. Maybe. Boxers say this all the time.
There aren't a whole lot of boxing video games these days.
Fight Night Champion [aka, Fight Night 5] was the last one I can remember, and that was back in 2011.
New videogame dropped today, maybe check it out if you are so inclined.
Hooray, Marco Huck picked a better opponent! Currently opponent is Mirko Larghetti... a 31 year old Italian who is undefeated 21-0. He is ranked #38 on BoxRec.
Haven't seen the fight, but apparently Katsidis just swept Earl. Unsurprising.. Earl had been retired for the last 5 years. While Katsidis was basically retired for 2 years, he had a come-back fight in March of this year, so he wasn't as rusty as Earl.
Lomachenko said some good stuff. Basically that he wants to unify all the championship belts at Featherweight.. and hates that he has to win 4+ belts to do so.
" ... And now I sound like a world champion, but I do not consider myself as such. I beat one boxer who never not boxed with any of the fighters at the top. To be the champion of the world - this is when all of the versions are unified, they make a belt, and you win it. Then you can consider yourself the best."
Did Rocky Martinez get dropped by Top Rank? Cuz if not, he's dreamin'.
This is a pretty rough fight for Figueroa. Danny Estrada. Before BoxRec recalculated some nonsense, Figueroa was #4 and Estrada was #9. Honestly though, considering Figueroa lost to Belmontes, this should be more like #9 vs #10. These guys are basically dead even after Figueroa's "loss."
Postol wants to fight Garcia. I guess he doesn't realize about the Cold War. Nor does he realize that Garcia is probably dropping those belts in the next year. I think a good fight to make next would be Postol vs DeMarco. However, I do not know who promotes DeMarco.
