Canelo vs Lara - Deep thoughts and analysis

Hello guys, first of all let me introduce myself, I'm a 29 year old guy who loves boxing and I've been a solid fan through 10 years of my life, watching from Espn FnF to HBO or Showtime PPV's I like every style from boxing, from the crafty boxers to the reckless sluggers.

Anyway I'm gonna tell you what I think from the last weekend fight which let me a bittersweet taste, I'm gonna give you my personal scorecard, who I thought should've won and what I think about both Canelo and Lara so as what they performances let, at least to my taste.

My Winner > 115--113 in favor of Erislandy Lara

Overall Performance - goods and bads

Erislandy Lara goods - Good control of the ring, good footwork, great pot shotting, great angles, great distance control, great head punching. great timing. display of crafty boxing skills.

Erislandy Lara bads - Lack of commitment to punish the rival for his mistakes, excessive movement on a PPV magnitude event, not taking enough risks to impress the crowd, lack of offensive arsenal, almost no inside game, no body work.

Canelo Alvarez goods - Good offensive arsenal, good inside game, great body work, commitment to punish the rival for his mistakes, commitment to go and look to make the fight on a PPV magnitude event. power punching impact.

Canelo Alvarez bads - Lack of creativity to cut off the ring, bad control of the ring, very little footwork, very little angles, no distance control, no head punching, more commitment to punish Lara knowing he was the stronger guy in there, bad counterpunching.

Judges> Roth and Moretti had it right, Martinez................... no comment.

Deep thoughts on the outcome of the fight - I saw a not very pleasing fight to watch, but to me it wasn't that bad, here we had the supposed 2 best men on the 154 division, trying to play a chess match with their styles and beliefs, one the crafty boxer making the other guy miss a lot, pot shoting the guy almost the whole night, and the other side we had the local guy with the massive following trying to engage and make a pleasant exchange fight with vicious punches, even thou a lot didn't land.

I had Lara winning by 7 rounds, but I guess you can make the case that some of those rounds were close, and had I flipped 1 or 2 rounds on my close rounds scorecards that would've make sense, so did I think Canelo won? No, am I mad that Canelo won? No, because fight was close, Was it a robbery?...................No and Yes.

No> because the fight could've gone either way, fight was very close.

Yes> because at the end of the day, the outcome of the fight was decided by one factor, and that factor is Levi Martinez.

Personal Thoughts - From my point of view what I learned this past Saturday, is that Canelo and Lara both have flaws, don't get me wrong, they are at the top of the 154 division, but neither of them are elite. I'm gonna say it like it is guys, remember this is just my opinion so you can take what you like and dispose what you don't .

Canelo is PPV money maker in the rise, a guy with spectacular combination punching, and a very marketable guy, don't get me wrong Canelo has skills, otherwise Lara and Trout would've made him look like a bum, Mayweather made him look like that because Mayweather is an all time great and the best of our era, but that's another story.

Lara is a hell of a boxer, a crafty soutpaw with great boxing skills,a pot shotting machine who makes you miss, but rare times makes you pay, a guy who has the skills but doesn't have neither the following masses or the style to bring casual ones to like him.

Personal Scorecards

Close rounds to me that could've gone the other fighter appear with * and are bolded, ,remember this is the way I really think the fight was even thou some people could argue that some of my close rounds were not close and other ones were more close, that's why scoring is based on your personal appreciation

Round 1 Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 2* Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 3 Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 4 Canelo 10-9 Lara

Round 5* Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 6* Canelo 10-9 Lara

Round 7 Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 8 Canelo 10-9 Lara

Round 9 Canelo 10-9 Lara

Round 10 Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 11 Canelo 9-10 Lara

Round 12 Canelo 10-9 Lara

Final Canelo 113-115 Lara

My deffinitive opinion on the outcome of the fight

If you want to dethrone the money maker (Canelo) , you gotta make him pay big, remember this is boxing, and boxing is a business, sad but true, I gave Lara the fight, but I really didn't like the way Lara fought, neither did I like the way Canelo fought because he could've made an effort to cut the ring in a better way, but A-Side beats B-Side always unless B-Side puts on a spectacular show. (pac-bradley 1 might be the only exception I can remember)

So no hard feelings, Lara was himself on Saturday night and even thou to my eyes he won the fight, he didn't do it clearly, Canelo had his rounds too and he looked good too on his moments.

Did the right man won? Yes

Did he deserve it? Yes

Did the outcome was fair? Yes and No, Yes because the fight was close and either man could've won , No because Levi Martinez played fool on us all night and he was the deciding factor on giving Canelo the victory..

PD: We'll have to see how Canelo develops from now on, because 154 is a deep division, I guess only time will tell us how good Canelo is because I guess we've seen pretty much how Lara has done against top opposition,. Martirosyan, Molina, Andrade, Charlo Twins,Kirkland, Cotto and any combination is possible, Lara has fought top opposition but when he had the biggest fight of his life he didn't shine.

As far as Canelo.............................I don't know again the kid still leaves me with more questions than answers.

sorry for my English guys, not my first language, born and lived my whole life on Mexico City, cheers.
