The cheetahpants July 2014 Boxing Rankings

Next rankings update hopefully on Monday, August the 4th.

March rankings here: http://www.badlefthook.com/2014/3/28/5557556/the-cheetahpants-march-2014-boxing-rankings

April rankings here: http://www.badlefthook.com/2014/4/14/5613686/the-cheetahpants-april-2014-boxing-rankings

May rankings here: http://www.badlefthook.com/2014/5/5/5683222/the-cheetahpants-may-2014-boxing-rankings

June rankings here: http://www.badlefthook.com/2014/6/3/5772690/the-cheetahpants-june-2014-boxing-rankings

Rule #1: The titlists are separate.
Rule #2: I made these rankings with Boxrec + my experience having viewed the fights or surveyed public opinion on the internet.
Rule #3: You win you're in, you lose you're out - unless your win or loss is a bullshit boxing robbery.
Rule #4: If you're inactive for 9 months with nothing scheduled, you're out.

"In the dugout" implies that they're waiting on a win to become ranked in the top #10. Decided to put a little more explanation into the dugout, since theoretically in a top#15 situation, not too many fighters should find themselves here.

HEAVYWEIGHT:

WBA/WBO/IBF:
Wladimir Klitscko
WBC: Bermane Stiverne

#1. Kubrat Pulev
#2. Tyson Fury
#3. Vyacheslav Glazkov
#4. Carlos Takam
#5. Alexander Povetkin
#6. Dereck Chisora
#7. Deontay Wilder
#8. Bryant Jennings
#9. Steve Cunningham
#10. Lucas Browne

CHANGES:
Carlos Takam beat Tony Thompson pretty one-sidedly earlier in the month, which set up for him to catapult up to the top.
This forces Thompson out entirely...
Which makes room for Lucas Browne at the bottom.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:

Tomasz Adamek - hasn't fought for 4 months with nothing scheduled. I had him losing pretty handily to Glazkov, too.

Odlanier Solis - hasn't fought for 4 months with nothing scheduled. He got pretty one-sidedly beat by Tony Thompson in this outing.

Mike Perez - He scored a draw in his last outing 6 months ago with Takam. I had Takam winning.. but it was a somewhat close fight, so your mileage may vary. If he's able to beat Jennings coming up, he would definitely be re-ranked.

Christian Hammer - Look, Boxrec has this guy ranked #14 in the world for beating up on Leif Larsen and Kevin Johnson. But he's also been knocked out by Mariusz Wach. So I mean, if he beats someone good I'll put him in. I just can't for the life of me right now put someone who is 16-3 over say, Lucas Browne or Andy Ruiz.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 26: Tyson Fury vs Dereck Chisora II, Bryant Jennings vs Mike Perez
August 1: Lucas Browne vs Andriy Rudenko
August 9: Vyacheslav Glazkov vs TBA
September 6: Wladimir Klitscko vs Kubrat Pulev

WBO: Sergey Kovalev

#1. Jean Pascal
#2. Juergen Braehmer
#3. Isaac Chilemba
#4. Nadjib Mohammedi
#5. Blake Caparello
#6. Thomas Williams
#7. Chad Dawson
#8. Eleider Alvarez
#9. Dmitry Sukhotsky
#10. Robert Berridge

CHANGES:
Mohammedi just beating the hell out of Dudchenko moves him up the rankings.
Dawson re-enters the rankings after a 13-month absence.
These changes force Umberto Savigne out at the bottom.
Tavoris Cloud drops out of the dugout after 9 months of inactivity with nothing scheduled after his loss to Stevenson.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Andrzej Fonfara - only 1 month since he lost to Stevenson.
Beibut Shumenov - 3 months since his loss to Hopkins.

Edwin Rodriguez - basically ditto for La Bomba.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
August 1: Thomas Williams vs Gabriel Campillo
August 2: Sergey Kovalev vs Blake Caparello, Isaac Chilemba vs Cory Cummings

SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT:

#4. Fedor Chudinov
#5. Gilberto Ramirez
#6. Ezequiel Maderna
#7. Christopher Rebrasse
#8. Callum Smith
#9. Hadillah Mohoumadi
#10. Maxim Vlasov

CHANGES:
NONE.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Robert Stieglitz - his loss to Abraham was only 5 months ago, but he has a return bout scheduled end-of-July against soft opposition. He should find himself re-ranked in August.
George Groves - only 1 month removed from his loss to Froch.
Anthony Dirrell - I had him losing 8 months ago to Sakio Bika in what as ruled a draw, but now they have a rematch scheduled for August. Must be nice to be managed by Al Haymon.
Lucian Bute - His loss to Pascal was 6 months ago, and I'm just assuming he comes back down to 168lbs.
Brandon Gonzales - only 1 month removed from his loss to DeGale.
Marco Antonio Periban - only 2 months out from his loss to J'Leon Love.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 12: Callum Smith vs Vladine Biosse
July 19: Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez vs Junior Talipeau
July 26: Robert Stieglitz vs Sergey Khomitsky

WBO: Peter Quillin

#1. Daniel Geale
#2. Martin Murray
#3. Matt Korobov
#4. Marco Antonio Rubio
#5. David Lemiuex
#6. Matthew Macklin
#7. Jarrod Fletcher
#8. Akio Shibata
#9. Dmitry Chudinov
#10. Jorge Heiland

CHANGES:
Miguel Cotto de-throned Sergio Martinez, which drops Martinez into the dugout.
Korobov had that "big" win over Uzcategui and forced his way up the rankings. This of course drops Uzcategui out.
Akio Shibata beat Hikaru Nishida over the Independence Day weekend which pushes him up into the top#10.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Sergio Martinez - only 1 month removed from his drubbing at the hands of Cotto. Will he fight again, or retire?
Felix Sturm - 1 month since he lost to Soliman and the same question - keep going or hang 'em up?
Caleb Truax - his draw to Duran was 7 months ago. If he can win his fight later this month, he should find himself re-ranked.
Brian Vera - 4 months removed from his loss to Chavez Jr.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 25: Caleb Truax vs Rogelio Medina
July 26: Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Geale
August 9: Jarrod Fletcher vs Daniel Jacobs, Dmitry Chudinov vs TBA

LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT:

WBA/WBC: Floyd Mayweather
IBF: Carlos Molina

#2. Erislandy Lara
#3. Ishe Smith
#4. Jermell Charlo
#5. K9 Bundrage
#6. Vanes Martirosyan
#7. James Kirkland
#8. Joshua Clottey
#9. Zaurbek Baysangurov
#10. Willie Nelson

CHANGES:
Brian Rose lost to Demetrius Andrade which pushes him out.
This makes room for Willie Nelson at #10, who made his 154lb comeback fight after an 11-month absence.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Austin Trout - his last fight was 7 months ago, a loss to Erislandy Lara. He's got 2 months to get something scheduled before he gets dropped.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 12: Canelo Alvarez vs Erislandy Lara

---

WELTERWEIGHT:

WBC/WBA: Floyd Mayweather
WBO: Manny Pacquiao
IBF: Shawn Porter

#1. Juan Manuel Marquez
#2. Marcos Maidana
#3. Kell Brook
#4. Robert Guerrero
#5. Keith Thurman
#6. Devon Alexander
#7. Amir Khan
#8. Leonard Bundu
#9. Carlos Abregu
#10. Chris van Heerden

CHANGES:
Robert Guerrero and Devon Alexander won as expected, and are re-ranked.
This pushes both Ray Robinson the lesser and Frankie Gavin out of the rankings.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Paulie Malignaggi - nothing in the 3 months since he got smashed by Porter. I think he probably hangs them up, but we'll see.
Timothy Bradley - nothing from him in the 3 months since his loss to Pacquiao. I doubt we hear from him until probably 2015, the way Top Rank has their shows staggered for the rest of the year.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 25: Chris van Heerden vs Cecil McCalla
August 1: Leonard Bundu vs Frankie Gavin
August 16: Shawn Porter vs Kell Brook
September 13: Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana II
November 22: Manny Pacquiao vs TBA

---

LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT:

WBA/WBC: Danny Garcia
WBO: Chris Algieri
IBF: Lamont Peterson

#1. Lucas Matthyse
#2. Ruslan Provodnikov
#3. Viktor Postol
#4. Jessie Vargas
#5. Adrien Broner
#6. Humberto Soto
#7. Mauricio Herrera
#8. Cesar Cuenca
#9. Antonio DeMarco
#10. Thomas Dulorme

CHANGES:
Even though I think Provodnikov beat Algieri 9-3... Algieri is indeed the current WBO 140lb world titlist, so he assumes his spot there. I am however going to dump Provodnikov into the #2 spot behind Matthyse.
This bumps out Johan Perez from the bottom.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Khabib Allakhverdiev - his close decision loss to Vargas was only 3 months ago.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
July 12: Mauricio Herrera vs Johan Perez
August 2: Jessie Vargas vs Anton Novikov
August 9: Danny Garcia vs Rod Salka, Lamont Peterson vs Edgar Santana

---

LIGHTWEIGHT:

IBF: Miguel Vazquez
WBO: Terence Crawford
WBA: Richar Abril
WBC: Omar Figueroa

#1. Ray Beltran
#2. Miguel Roman
#3. Hank Lundy
#4. Kevin Mitchell
#5. Edner Cherry
#6. Petr Petrov
#7. Dejan Zlaticanin
#8. Rustam Nugaev
#9. Dierry Jean
#10. Xolisani Ndongeni

CHANGES:
Terence Crawford defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa and knocked him into the dugout.
Miguel Roman moved down to 130lbs to retire Daniel Ponce de Leon, but Roman has announced his attentions to stay at 135lbs, so this catapults him up the rankings.
Dejan Zlaticanin did a number on Ricky Burns, as far as anyone watching on TV could tell, since the TV broadcast had 4 rounds cut out of it.
Dierry Jean successfully made his lightweight debut.
All these changes force Paulus Moses out at the bottom.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Denis Shafikov - his loss to Vazquez 5 months ago dropped his stock.
Ricky Burns - apparently losing to Zlaticanin, Crawford, and Beltran isn't enough for Boxrec to drop Burns out of the top#10. Whatever. I think he's dunzo.
Yuriorkis Gamboa - not even a full week removed out from his loss to Crawford. It is assumed he will drop down to 130lbs, but .. who knows.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:
August 15: Rustam Nugaev vs TBA

---

SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT:

WBO: Mikey Garcia
WBA: Takashi Uchiyama
WBC: Takashi Miura
IBF: Argenis Mendez

#1. Juanma Lopez
#2. Javier Fortuna

#4. Adrian Estrella
#5. Daiki Kaneko
#6. Bryan Vasquez
#7. Stephen Smith
#8. Rances Barthelemy
#9. Rikki Naito
#10. Michael Farenas

CHANGES:
Adrian Estrella beat Dante Jardon over the weekend, so this pushes him into the top#10.
Rikki Naito beat Kyohei Tamakoshi to defend his JBC 130lb title which pushes him in.
And Mike Farenas beat Mark Davis to get pushed in as well.
These changes force out Emmanuel Tago, Luis Flores, and Andrey Klimov.
Miguel Roman beat Daniel Ponce de Leon up pretty bad, so this forces him out of the dugout.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Orlando Salido - even though he won his last fight at 126lbs and weighed-in over, he still needs to win a proper fight at 130lbs to be ranked.

July 10: Argenis Mendez vs Rances Barthelemy II
July 12: Juanma Lopez vs Francisco Vargas, Stephen Smith vs TBA

#3. Nicholas Walters
#4. Rocky Juarez
#5. Hisashi Amagasa
#6. Lee Selby
#7. Satoshi Hosono
#8. Marvin Sonsona
#9. Ronny Rios
#10. Jesus Galicia

CHANGES:
Vasyl Lomachenko is your new WBO world titlist.
The sad thing is, Gary Russell never even entered my top#10 to knock him into the dugout.
Jorge Arce got recalculated and dropped precipitously. That's fine. He hasn't fought anyone of significance since Donaire anyway.
Marvin Sonsona had that win over Vazquez and so that moves him up.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Abner Mares - His KO loss to Gonzalez was 10 months ago, but he has this comeback scheduled pretty soon, so we will see how he looks there to be re-ranked.

UPCOMING FIGHTS:

Sonjica had a win in early June which pushes him one up over Quigg.
Wilfredo Vazquez got blown out at Featherweight which makes room for Gasca at #9.
Victor Terrazas drops out of the dugout as his loss to Santa Cruz was 10 months ago.

CHANGES:

Alejandro Hernandez pushes into the top#10 with a win, which nudges Tepparith Kokietgym out.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:

#10. Sho Ishida

CHANGES:
McJoe Arroyo and Jose Salgado push into the top#10 by beating Tyson Marquez and Oscar Blanquet respectively. This pushes out Mark Geraldo and Edrin Dapudong.
This makes room again for Sho Ishida.
Sadly, Paul Butler just barely is edged out from even being ranked. I guess he will be ranked in September, since either Tobe or Ishida will find themselves pushed out from their fight in August.

WAITING IN THE DUGOUT:
Daiki Kameda - he lost to Liborio Solis 7 months ago. He doesn't have long to get something scheduled before he is dropped.
