Erislandy Lara and his team still think they got shafted in their July 12 pay-per-view loss to Canelo Alvarez, but they're letting that go and focusing on the near future, as the Cuban southpaw is aiming to return to action in November or December, and will defend the WBA junior middleweight title he still has in his possession.
From manager Luis De Cubas at The Sweet Science:
"Lara will be returning in November or early December. We're working on opponents, and he will be defending his title. ... It's not the first time he got jobbed. Against Paul Williams, as well. ... So he feels one hundred percent that he won the fight, so he's good."
Lara (19-2-2, 12 KO) may possibly face James Kirkland, Ishe Smith, or Vanes Martirosyan. Kirkland is the most attractive of that group for boxing fans, without question, but what his status is at any given time is up in the air. Smith was Lara's scheduled opponent in May, with that fight canceled so that Lara could instead take the bout with Canelo. Martirosyan and Lara fought to a dull technical draw in November 2012.
Of the three, I think obviously most of us would like to see Kirkland next. But if it comes down to Smith or Martirosyan, what fight more interests you?
