On the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri, Vasyl Lomachenko will fight Thailand's Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo with his 126-pound belt on the line. Piriyapinyo is already a veteran at age 29 with a record of 52-1, 33 KOs. His highest-profile fight was a decision loss to then WBA champion Chris John in 2012.
Lomachenko will be making the first defense of the belt he won by decisioning Gary Russell Jr in a good fight last June.
Zou Shiming--shocker--will also be on the card, and Top Rank is hoping it will be an eliminator for a chance at the winner of the September 6th fight between WBA/WBO champ Juan Francisco Estrada and Giovani Segura. TR submitted Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym (27-0-2, 12 KOs) to the WBO for approval. The Thai fighter is also known as Kwanpichit 13 Rien Express, not that you'll remember either of those names three minutes from now. Although, "13 Rien Express" is pretty cool.
For anyone hoping the Pac-Algieri undercard would be stellar, this will be a disappointment. For everyone else, well, you know. Bob Arum promised a third fight will be announced later this week. One fight rumored is Diego Magdaleno vs. Bryan Vasquez for Vasquez's belt. We'll just have to wait to see what ol' Bob has lined up for our entertainment.
