Matthew Macklin's August 30 return in Dublin, Ireland, has been postponed, following an attack on former fighter and current Macklin trainer Jamie Moore, who was shot in both legs and the hip earlier this week.
Moore was leaving the home of Christy Kinahan, a suspected organized crime figure in Ireland, when he was reportedly shot by Daniel Kinahan five times. Moore later said he was "confused" by the attack.
It is believed Moore was the innocent victim of a bid to issue a warning to people he knows. There is no suggestion he is involved in any criminal activity.
Christy Kinahan, Daniel, and his brother, Christy junior, are currently on bail while being investigated on suspicion of money laundering and membership of a criminal gang.
Macklin (30-5, 20 KO) was set to face Jorge Heiland in what was expected to be a tune-up bout for a potential bigger fight to come later. The 32-year-old Macklin last fought in December, beating Lamar Russ on HBO, following a TKO-3 loss last year to Gennady Golovkin in an HBO main event.
The 35-year-old Moore fought from 1999-2010, retiring after a loss to Sergey Khomitsky. He was best known for a pair of true wars, one against Macklin in 2006 and another against Ryan Rhodes in 2009.
