Welcome to the inaugural episode of Bad Left Hook Commentary, wherein esteemed boxing writers (er...) Kyle McLachlan and myself, Connor Ruebusch, provide English commentary for some of the many, many great fights that normally don't get it.
You see, there all these great fighters, most of them in boxing's lighter weight classes, and most of them from South America or Asia, and the English-speaking masses just don't care for them. We prefer fighters who speak our own language, and fighters nearer our own size. The average earthling, however, is just 137 pounds, which means that the talent pool for small fighters--at least what we would consider small fighters, that is--is positively massive.
Flyweight is the real shark tank at the moment, but young Japanese talent Naoya Inoue, formerly fighting at Junior Flyweight, has made the wise decision to skip it for the time being. In this fight, he challenges long-time Junior Bantamweight titlist Omar Narvaez, undefeated in all but one of his 30 world title bouts.
As we call this fight, which originally aired on December 30th of 2014, keep in mind that this is our first attempt at providing alternate commentary. Let us know if you have any suggestions for future improvements, and we'll consider them for our coming episodes.
Keep an eye out for our commentary of Rigondeaux-Amagasa, coming soon.
