With less than two months until Floyd Mayweather's final fight, it looks like the undercard may be coming together. The Ring reported last week that Badou Jack may defend his WBC Super Middleweight belt against George Groves on that card, and now BoxingScene brings word of another fun matchup.
The site reports that super featherweight sluggers Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido may lock horns once again on September 12th after a fun April scrap that saw the Puerto Rican drop Salido twice en route to a unanimous decision win.
Martinez promoter Peter Rivera says that Mayweather Promotions is interested in having them on the undercard, while Salido's manager, Sean Gibbons, says that the fight is already signed
"Rocky" (29-2-2, 17 KO) lost his WBO belt in 2013 to Mikey Garcia, who put down the durable veteran with a stomach-churning liver shot after being dropped himself in the second round. He regained the belt two fights later against the ever-aggressive Salido (42-13-2, 29 KO), who had earned the vacant title in an epic war with Terdsak Kokietgym.
Both men are quite limited, but their insane aggression should make for another quality fight.
What's the over/under on how many times Salido hits the deck? I'm thinking three.
