WBO champion Arthur Abraham currently has a Nov. 21st title defense scheduled against the always dangerous TBD. But while promoter Kalle Sauerland searches for an opponent, he's also talking about putting together a Spring 2016 fight between Abraham and boxing's Methuselah, Bernard Hopkins.
Sauerland tells ESPN that he's currently in discussions with Golden Boy to negotiate the fight, and Hopkins has gone on record saying he wants at least one more big fight before retiring. Hopkins will turn 51-years-old in January, but says he's interested in moving down to 168lbs for one more title shot after losing a wide decision to Sergey Kovalev last November. Bernard is also said to be interested in going to Germany to make the fight happen, but Sauerland thinks the fight makes does bigger business Stateside.
Bernard Hopkins does keep himself in great physical condition, but a 51-year-old prizefighter moving down a division after campaigning at light heavyweight for basically 10 years could be tough on his body. Then again, Hopkins isn't your average 51-year-old.
