The World Boxing Council (WBC) has tweeted that a welterweight unification fight between IBF titleholder Errol Spence Jr and WBC titleholder Shawn Porter “has been announced,” which ... isn’t exactly true.

Porter VS Spence has been announced and we are waiting for a date for it! What do you think?

No word from Premier Boxing Champions, no word from their partners, no word from Spence or Porter, no word from anyone else, really.
But the WBC is, like, a real boxing thing, so the suspicion is that they jumped the gun more than they’re actually wrong.
A fight between Spence (25-0, 21 KO) and Porter (30-2-1, 17 KO) is expected this summer. There’s been plenty of smoke around that, as well as a Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman PPV fight from PBC, possibly on July 20.
But other than this tweet from the WBC, there’s been no official word, and the most that has been said is that “contracts are nearly finalized.” So yeah, we’re getting this fight, almost certainly, but the WBC may have gotten excited.
