Price vs Sexton Results: David Price Wins British Title With Big KO, Theophane Upset

David Price kept his knockout streak alive and stayed unbeaten, winning the vacant British heavyweight championship today in Liverpool with a fourth round knockout of Sam Sexton.

Price (13-0, 11 KO) put Sexton down once in the third and again in the fourth before scoring the final blow at 2:07 of the fourth round, a brutal knockout that left no doubt. It was his seventh straight win by stoppage, all but one coming within the first four rounds, and right now, he looks as though he may be a class above press rival Tyson Fury, who gave up the British and Commonwealth titles instead of fighting Price, largely due to TV politics.

The 28-year-old Price fights like a seasoned pro, makes few mistakes, doesn't leave a reportedly questionable chin open to get hit, and is starting to draw more legitimate comparisons to Wladimir Klitschko as he continues to win. He's certainly not on the level of Klitschko right now, but this is a guy you might be able to project at that level. He's aggressive, he's smart, and he's got simply massive power in his fists.

Price vs Sexton: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage

David Price looks to make his mark on British boxing today against Sam Sexton.

Today at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Sky Sports in the UK, heavyweight prospect David Price looks to pick up the vacant British heavyweight title when he faces former Commonwealth champ Sam Sexton in a 12-round bout from Liverpool. Bad Left Hook will have live round-by-round coverage, assuming the Kessler vs Green coverage does not get in the way of this show's main event. It might and might not. We will most likely miss the co-feature on this show, if that goes up first on Sky.

Price (12-0, 10 KO) has torn through his competition since turning pro in 2009, and now looks to firmly establish himself on the domestic scene. Sexton (15-2, 6 KO) is a solid fighter, but does have two stoppage losses on his record, both to Dereck Chisora. Price is a big-time puncher with both hands, and can do serious damage very quickly. Though Sexton is a good opponent for him at this stage, I admit I struggle to see a way that the Norwich vet can win this one.

Kessler vs Green: Live Results and Round-By-Round Coverage

Mikkel Kessler welcomes Allan Green to Copenhagen this afternoon. (Photo by Photo Wende)

Today at 4:30 p.m. EDT on BoxNation and 5 p.m. EDT on ESPN3.com, we'll be bringing you live coverage, round-by-round, of the Mikkel Kessler vs Allan Green card in Denmark.

Kessler (44-2, 33 KO) is making a move to the light heavyweight division with this fight, leaving behind his days at super middleweight, where he's been a top contender and titleholder for years now. Both fighters did come in very light for the 175-pound division, with Kessler at 169 and Green at 171, so really, this seems like more an exploratory move from Kessler than a true jump to light heavyweight.

Green (31-3, 21 KO) is an American fighter who has never really gotten over the hump. He's won two straight, albeit against competition far below Kessler's level, following back-to-back losses to Glen Johnson and Andre Ward.

Andre Berto Denies Steroid Usage With Public Statement

Andre Berto says he did not knowingly use steroids, and will investigate the cause of his failed drug test. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

Andre Berto, who failed a VADA test when it came up positive for the steroid nandrolone (generally known as Deca-Durabolin) and has lost his June 23 rematch with Victor Ortiz, has officially denied using the steroid and is currently having his lawyers deal with the case.

"At the present time, I cannot explain the positive drug test, which was provided as part of a voluntary anti-doping program in which I agreed to participate. I know that I have never used any steroids or other banned substances, and I am investigating all possible causes of the positive test with my attorney Howard Jacobs. I have never cheated, and all of my success has come from hard work and dedication."

As for those who think Berto's past association with Victor Conte may play a role here, I really believe that Conte is telling the honest truth when he says this has nothing to do with him.

Amir Khan vs Danny Garcia: Fight Can Only Happen if Khan Gets Belts Back

Amir Khan and Danny Garcia will only fight on July 7 if it's a unification bout, which means Khan must get one of his belts back. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images)

A potential July 7 clash between Amir Khan and Danny Garcia is entirely dependent upon Khan getting his WBA or IBF title back (or both) from his December loss to Lamont Peterson, as Garcia says without Khan getting the belts back and thus creating a unification exception with the WBC (whose belt Garcia owns), mandatory challenger Ajose Olusegun will be his next opponent:

A unification bout with khan is the only way we can fight. If he don't get his belts back then I will have to face my mandatory. #boxing

The WBC did order a purse bid for the Garcia vs Olusegun fight, which was originally scheduled for May 18, but was just pushed back to June 1. Obviously, the WBC is giving everyone time to get a Khan vs Garcia fight in order. I mean, I say "obviously" because it seems obvious to me, anyway. Golden Boy requested the extension, and their intention is to get Khan's belts back and stage the Khan-Garcia fight on July 7.

Haye vs Chisora: Warren and Sulaiman Trade Jabs

The Haye vs Chisora fight has stirred up a lot of controversy, and now the sanctioning bodies are weighing in. (Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty Images)

Few fights have stirred up controversy the way the scheduled July 14 bout between David Haye and Dereck Chisora has, at least before the fight has gotten to the ring or indeed even had more than the obligatory official announcement press conference. If it weren't for everyone who dares a real drug test failing them lately, this would no doubt be boxing's hottest topic at the moment.

The newest hype and chatter comes thanks to boxing's precious, precious sanctioning bodies, starting with the WBC, which has threatened to expel the Luxembourg commission (I'm certain, with all they do that has anything to do with the WBC, this is a terrible scare for them). Dictator-for-life Jose Sulaiman also is all mad at Frank Warren.

Friday Night Fights Live Results: Karim Mayfield vs Raymond Serrano

(Photo via Friday Night Fights on Facebook)

Tonight's edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights is live at 9 p.m. EDT on ESPN2 and ESPN3.com and features a pair of unbeaten fighters in the 10-round junior welterweight main event.

Raymond "Tito" Serrano of Philadelphia will face Karim Mayfield of San Francisco in that main event, live from Albany, New York. Serrano (18-0, 8 KO) and Mayfield (15-0-1, 9 KO) are both prospects, but the 22-year-old Serrano has more time on his hands than the 31-year-old Mayfield, who is trying to quickly move into title contention.

It will be a fight that should tell us something notable about both guys, so in that regard it's a strong FNF main event. There is a chance the fight won't be exciting, if we're honest -- Mayfield has an awkward style and Serrano isn't exactly thrilling, either.

The co-feature is an eight-round super middleweight-ish bout between Jason Escalera (13-0, 12 KO) and Nick Brinson (9-1-1, 5 KO). Though Brinson has a loss, he's faced slightly better competition than has Escalera to date.

I'm not certain I'm going to be in tonight as I'm sort of recharging the batteries for tomorrow afternoon's live coverage, and starting next week we get into a very busy, very important chunk of the schedule, so long as nothing else gets canceled. But the discussion is open for everyone to talk about the fights tonight even if I'm not here. I plan to at least record the show and watch the fights in the morning.

Ortiz vs Berto II: Andre Berto Tests Positive For Steroid, Rematch With Victor Ortiz In Jeopardy

LAS VEGAS - APRIL 30: Boxer Andre Berto reacts to the crowd from the stage before the start of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on April 30, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather and Mosley will meet in a 12-round welterweight bout on May 1, 2010 in Las Vegas. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images)

The highly anticipated June 23 rematch between Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz has already been pushed back once, and now it looks like it could be canceled completely. It is being reported by multiple sources that Berto has tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid.

It is extremely likely that this will result in the fight being called off completely.

Here's a tweet with some information from MaxBoxing's Gabriel Montoya:

To clarify, both A and B samples of Andre Berto have been confirmed for traces of nandrolone. #boxing

Berto, of course, works with Victor Conte, the notorious head of BALCO who was tied to PED use across multiple sports.

Lamont Peterson Goes Before Nevada in June, Apologizes to Khan

Lamont Peterson will have an uphill battle when he meets with the Nevada commission to apply for a license next month. (Photo by Ned Dishman/Getty Images)

In an interview with Richard Conway of the BBC, Lamont Peterson apologized to Amir Khan for their rematch being canceled, and he and trainer Barry Hunter continue to try and clear the fighter's name as Peterson prepares to go before the Nevada commission next month to apply for a license.

If Peterson is denied in Nevada, which many currently expect to happen, his career will take a really major hit for up to a year. He could reapply later, but even then there would be no guarantee he'd get his license back.

Here's what Peterson had to say toward Amir Khan:

"(Khan) was looking forward to fighting. He had an opportunity to win his titles back. But that's not gonna happen now. So, yeah, I apologize to him, too, for not giving him the opportunity."

Marquez vs Morales: Golden Boy Willing to Work With Top Rank to Make Fight Happen

Richard Schaefer says he's willing to work with Top Rank on a Juan Manuel Marquez vs Erik Morales fight. (Photo by Ned Dishman/Getty Images)

RingTV.com reports that Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and Todd duBoef are in talks to stage a July 14 fight at Cowboys Stadium between Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales. The fight was first brought up a few days ago, with Marquez bringing his options down to Morales and Mercito Gesta, but with Morales still owing Golden Boy fights on his current deal, and Marquez promoted by Top Rank right now, it was a big question as to whether or not the fight could get done.

I assumed there was a shot that GBP would actually let Morales, now 34 and with limited upside following a loss to Danny Garcia in March, out of his deal to pursue the fight with Marquez, if only because Golden Boy doesn't have a lot to gain from Morales going forward, and it could very well be the Mexican legend's last fight, period.
