Sonny Boy Jaro Upsets Pongsaklek Wonjongkam: Full Fight Video
Via YouTube, here's the full fight on Friday morning (EST) from Thailand, where Sonny Boy Jaro shocked the boxing world and knocked out Pongsaklek Wonjongkam to become the new world flyweight champion.
As noted before, it's not the prettiest fight in the world, but it's not dull, and it's going to be tough to top for biggest upset of 2012.
Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson: Full Fight Video
Courtesy HBO Sports, here's the full fight from December 10 between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson, which was one of their best fights of the year, and one of the most controversial across boxing for 2011.
I still score this fight for Khan by a hair every time I watch it, same score: 113-112 for Khan. I never change a round.
But the reason I want to see a rematch of this fight is I think that Lamont Peterson made a few tactical errors he can correct. My initial thought was a rematch greatly favors Khan, who can fight better, while Peterson seemed to do his absolute best. But there are little things Peterson can do -- attack more here and there, notably, because Khan responded badly to it pretty much all the time -- for a better performance.
And can Khan really fight any better? His flaws are very real, and they're very big, and they hold him back from that next level, the elite level. Is this who he is, hard-wired? Freddie Roach is a great trainer, but some things about fighters you cannot fix. Take even Freddie and Manny Pacquiao. No matter how much discipline Roach instills, or how much better a boxer he has made Manny Pacquiao, he'll never change that animal instinct in Manny to square up and brawl when he gets tagged. Can he change Khan's amateur habits? Can he get him to become a more consistent fighter? Can he tinker enough with the mentality to get it to stick?
I don't know. But that's why I want to see this one again. To find out, on both sides.
Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 3: Full Fight Video
Obviously this fight has been debated to death, and probably will be forever, so I don't have a whole lot to say about it. I will say I think it's the "worst" of their three fights -- which is pretty awesome because this isn't exactly Ali-Frazier II or anything, this is still a pretty damn good fight.
They just might hook it up again for a fourth time in spring 2012, but that seems to be up to Marquez and Top Rank's ability to find a middle ground on a deal for a fight. If I were a betting man, I think I'd list Marquez the third-best bet of himself, Miguel Cotto and Timothy Bradley to face Pacquiao in the spring, with Lamont Peterson as a big darkhorse in the race. But who knows? We've been surprised before.
Alfredo Angulo vs James Kirkland: Full Fight Video from HBO
Courtesy HBO Sports, here's the full fight video of the November 5 slugfest between Alfredo Angulo and James Kirkland in Mexico, which featured a Round of the Year contender in the opening three minutes, and then became a one-way street of brutality in favor of the road fighter from Austin, Texas.
After this fight, I think it's fair to seriously question just how good Alfredo Angulo is, but then again I never thought he was particularly great. Fun to watch, but extremely limited and to me, a poor man's Antonio Margarito in just about every way. Guys with any skill, good stamina, and the ability to not get trucked by his rushes will always give him serious fits. The two best fighters he's faced have beaten him.
As for Kirkland, 2012 could be a big year for the ferocious brawler if he can stay on the straight and narrow. Ann Wolfe gets results from him, and they've become one of the best partnerships in boxing.
Yordanis Despaigne vs Cornelius White: Full Fight Video
Thanks to Goossen Tutor Promotions, here's the full fight from Saturday's Ward vs Froch undercard, as Cornelius White upsets Yordanis Despaigne.
This fight kind of "does it" for Despaigne (9-2, 4 KO), though for now his February 3 rematch with Edison Miranda appears to remain on. I guess there's no reason to call it off -- Despaigne vs Miranda had some action in July, and a controversial finish, and what Cornelius White (18-1, 15 KO) is doing doesn't really have any impact on whether or not a rematch is worthwhile. It is, kind of, but it's now become a weaker FNF main event than it was going to be, assuming it goes through.

But Despaigne, 31, just isn't much to write home about. Maybe he looked past White, or maybe he's just not that good. Or maybe White, 30, is worth keeping a few tabs on from this point. Maybe all of those things! Boxing is a fun sport. Things don't always make sense.
White clearly won this fight. No controversy with this decision.

Edison Miranda vs Kariz Kariuki: Full Fight Video
Thanks to Goossen Tutor Promotions, here's the full fight from Saturday's Ward vs Froch undercard between light heavyweights Edison Miranda and Kariz Kariuki.
Miranda (35-6, 30 KO) wins without much trouble and all, and the left hook that basically stops the bout is pretty great, but here a couple of questions:
- Doesn't he still look soft, slow, and worn out as a light heavyweight? The man is just not a light heavyweight, and frankly I think he's given up on being a contender. (Which is fine, he got enough shots.)
- Why doesn't the referee replace Kariuki's mouthpiece when it's knocked out? He certainly has a stoppage in action with which to address that.
This is about the level Miranda will be on from here on out. He's going to beat guys like this and occasionally lose to slightly better guys than this, and if he ever gets another undeserved shot at a top fighter, he'll lose badly like he's been doing since Kelly Pavlik beat the snot out of him in 2007.
But I'll always watch Miranda fight. It's not like he wastes my time with boring exhibitions.
Cotto vs Margarito Undercard: Full Fights feat. Glen Tapia, Hanzel Martinez and Sean Monaghan
Top Rank put up most of the Cotto vs Margarito off-TV undercard fights on YouTube. Previously we posted the night's opening bout between Samuel Figueroa and Ibrihim Shabazz, and here's the rest of what they put up. Mike Lee's fight wasn't uploaded, if you're wondering about that.
Glen Tapia vs Mike Ruiz
Really fun, quick fight here, as Ruiz comes to bang and has his moments before Tapia (12-0, 6 KO) closes the show. Tapia has been used in a couple of Pacquiao camps and has received a little hype and push, but I think the jury's still out for now. He's still very young at 22, but in recent fights he hasn't shown a whole lot of power, and he doesn't dig to the body as much as he did earlier in his career, when he was really young.
Prince Arron vs Brian Rose: Full Fight Video (Dec. 3)
Here's the December 3 British junior middleweight title fight between Prince Arron and Brian Rose. For those who haven't seen it, it's worth a watch.
