Morales vs Garcia Odds: Danny Garcia Favored to Knock Off Mexican Legend
Danny Garcia is expected by oddsmakers to leave Houston with the WBC junior welterweight title and a win over Mexican legend Erik Morales tonight, live on HBO at 10:15 p.m. EDT. Here are the current odds:
| Sportsbook | Morales | Garcia |
|---|---|---|
| 5Dimes | +280 |
-340 |
| Bovada | +260 |
-340 |
| SBG Global | +270 |
-330 |
Morales came in overweight yesterday and lost his title on the scales, which we'll have more on at Noon EDT today. Needless to say, it's a bit of a downer, but in terms of the fight itself, this has to be figured to even more strongly favor Garcia.
[ Previews: Morales vs Garcia / Kirkland vs Molina ]
Sure, Morales would be worse off if he'd killed himself to lose the two pounds, but he's never really been a junior welterweight anyway, and he was already a bit of an underdog here. Now I think Garcia has to be considered a firm favorite, if he's even close to as good as his prospect push.
Judah vs Paris Odds: Vernon Paris a Surprising Favorite
Vernon Paris is, for all intents and purposes, an unknown to anyone but diehard boxing fans. Zab Judah's been shouted out in a Wu-Tang Clan song. But oddsmakers have installed the 24-year-old from Detroit as a very slight favorite ahead of their Saturday night fight in Brooklyn, Judah's hometown.
| Sportsbook | Judah | Paris |
|---|---|---|
| 5Dimes | +105 |
-125 |
| Bovada | +100 |
-130 |
| SBG Global | -105 |
-125 |
As we discussed in the fight preview, this is a tough fight to call entirely because there are so many questions about both fighters, for very different reasons. Paris has never gone past eight rounds. Judah, at 34, is well past his best years. But is he still too much for the inexperienced Paris?
Martinez vs Macklin Odds: Luck of the Irish Not Believed to Be With Macklin
Sergio Martinez defends the world middleweight championship tonight on HBO and Sky Sports, with the card starting at 10 p.m. EDT, and he's facing half-Irish Matthew Macklin of Birmingham, England, in front of a crowd that could well be very pro-Macklin in New York City on St. Patrick's Day.
But no matter who the crowd pulls for tonight, it's expected Macklin is in big trouble, and will simply be the latest of three straight Europeans to come to America and find themselves outclassed by the reigning champ from Argentina.
| Sportsbook | Martinez | Macklin |
|---|---|---|
| 5Dimes | -1200 |
+775 |
| Bovada | -1200 |
+700 |
| SBG Global | -1100 |
+650 |
Brook vs Hatton Odds: Matthew Hatton Being Counted Out Again
Today's fight in Sheffield between welterweights Kell Brook and Matthew Hatton has attracted a good amount of fan interest in the United Kingdom, but the oddsmakers aren't seeing this as a close one, with Brook (26-0, 18 KO) installed as the heavy favorite against Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO).
| Sportsbook | Brook | Hatton |
|---|---|---|
| 5Dimes | -1250 |
+800 |
| Bovada | -1000 |
+600 |
Brook, 25, is a rising star in the division and appears to clearly be the best welterweight in the UK, and may well be the best European welterweight in the game, with Jan Zaveck and I suppose Vyacheslav Senchenko also in that discussion. Hatton should be expected to give the clichéd 110% in this fight, but it would be, by far, a career-best performance from him if he were to pull this fight off.
Klitschko vs Mormeck Odds: Wladimir Between 40 and 50 to 1
Today at 4:30 p.m. EST on Epix and EpixHD.com in the United States, as well as RTL in Germany and Sky Sports in the United Kingdom, world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko returns to the ring for the first time since last July's disappointingly easy win over David Haye, facing long-ago cruiserweight champ Jean Marc Mormeck of France.
[ Klitschko vs Mormeck: Fight Preview (Of Sorts) ]
The odds, as we have discussed several times, are ridiculous. This fight being for the "world heavyweight championship" -- the real one -- is absurd.
| Book | Klitschko | Mormeck |
|---|---|---|
| Bovada | -5000 | +1400 |
| 5Dimes | -4000 | +2000 |
| SBG Global | -4600 | +1900 |
After two straight weekends of decent or better heavyweight fights (Klitschko vs Chisora and Povetkin vs Huck), here we are with more of this crap. But even worse than normal.
Maidana vs Alexander Odds: Hometown Favors Alexander Again
Marcos Maidana may be a diehard fans' favorite, but it's Devon Alexander who has the oddsmakers in his favor tonight as he takes the hometown ring in St. Louis again for the welterweight fight, which is scheduled for ten rounds on HBO.
| Book | Alexander | Maidana |
|---|---|---|
| Bovada | -200 | +160 |
| 5Dimes | -185 | +160 |
| SGB Global | -170 | +140 |
Alexander (22-1, 13 KO) has been inconsistent in recent performances. His loss last year to Timothy Bradley definitely wasn't pretty, but even more damning in the minds of many were his uneven performances in gift wins over Andriy Kotelnik and Lucas Matthysse, the bread of the Bradley fight sandwich. Bad Left Hook scored both fights clearly for the visiting fighter, but Alexander got the hometown nod in each fight, largely, it seemed, on the basis of a jab that did happen, but did not actually land.
Povetkin vs Huck Odds: Uphill Climb For Marco Huck in Germany
Alexander Povetkin is expected to retain his WBA heavyweight title today in Stuggary, Germany, when he faces top cruiserweight Marco Huck, but the odds are competitive, and Huck isn't an overwhelming underdog by any means.
| Book | Povetkin | Huck |
|---|---|---|
| Bovada | -300 | +230 |
| 5Dimes | -310 | +255 |
| SGB Global | -360 | +260 |
Povetkin (23-0, 16 KO) and Huck (34-1, 25 KO) weighed in at 229 and 209 pounds yesterday, and the size difference in the fight may not be a big deal. Physically they don't appear to be far apart by any means, and the move up to heavyweight, often something cruiserweights just aren't equipped to do successfully in modern boxing, may not be a hindrance for Huck in this matchup.
Broner vs Perez Odds: Adrien Broner at -550 For HBO Co-Feature
Adrien Broner makes the first defense of the WBO super featherweight title that he won in November tonight in St. Louis, facing Eloy Perez in the HBO co-feature to the Maidana vs Alexander main event. Broner is the solid favorite, at -550 on two major sportsbooks.
| Book | Broner | Perez |
|---|---|---|
| Bovada | -550 | +375 |
| 5Dimes | -550 | +425 |
Broner (22-0, 18 KO) is an Al Haymon client who has been gifted a fairly easy path to his first major title, and has become a darling for Golden Boy (the promoter allowed to put him on their cards) and HBO, who may or may not see Broner as a "next Mayweather" type of fighter. (Broner says people he's the next Mayweather.)
