Saturday Results: Arthur retains, Lee wins again

These are just early results from today/tonight's action around the globe, as we're still waiting on the Edwin Valero-headlined PPV from Cancun, as well as Ulises Solis' defense against Bert Batawang in Guadalajara.

Edinburgh, Scotland: Hometown boy Alex Arthur "retained" the interim WBO super featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision against England's Stephen Foster, scores of 114-111, 114-111 and 113-112. Andrew Wake of Eastside Boxing is calling it a Fight of the Year candidate. Arthur is now 26-1.

Dublin, Ireland: 23-year old middleweight Andy Lee continued his dominance, beating Northern Ireland's Jason McKay when MacKay retired in his corner after six rounds. Lee is now 14-0 with 11 knockouts, and he went 8-0 -- all KOs -- this year. If you asked me to pick a future, Lee's or Duddy's, I'll take Lee's every time.

Andy Lee

What are the editors opinions on Andy Lee - there is genuine excitement growing in Ireland over Lee, from watching his fight last night he certainly has an unorthodox style that would no doubt prove very tricky for PAvilik, though he needs a few more fights to tighten up a somewhat leaky defence.

I have always relied on BLH to give an unbiased opinion of fighters and was wondering what you guys all think of Lee?? Are Irish aspirations for Lee unfounded??

I think Lee is the real deal. I've given Manny Steward's results with Jermain Taylor plenty of hell, but those were earned, and it's not like I think Steward is a bad trainer. In fact, he is as great as his reputation. And he's getting the right results with Andy Lee. He's doing nothing but destroying the guys put in front of him. He's at least 15-18 months away from facing world class competition, probably, but at this point, he looks like a future world champion. There's every reason to be excited about Andy Lee.

Alex Arthur

Aye it was a good fight.
Arthur said before hand he is ready to tackle the elite Super-Featherweights. HaHa Very Funny. I dont think he is ready for the domestic level Super-Featherweights. Europeon level at best.

Frank Warren done a belting job getting him the WBO "interim" belt. If Guzman steps up then Arthur gets the belt for real. Guzman, Pac-man and all them would batter Alex Arthur.

Its a shame as he is another smashing fellow. He believes the FW hype that he is one of the best in the world alongside Enzo. Poppycock.
