Saturday Results, Pt. II: Valero, Linares and Solis all win

On the PPV from Cancun, Edwin Valero extended his unbeaten knockout streak to 23 wins via 23 knockouts with a third round destruction of Zaid Zavaleta. It's another tomato can win for Valero, but Kevin was impressed. He also called Jorge Linares' eighth round KO of Gamaliel Diaz a knockout of the year contender.

In a notable undercard fight, Naoki Matsuda beat Rodolfo Lopez after the fight was stopped on cuts in the eighth round. With Matsuda celebrating at center ring, Lopez punched him. That's a hell of a bad career move for anybody, let alone a guy that's now 20-5-1.

In Guadalajara, Ulises Solis retained the IBF's junior flyweight title with a 10th round TKO of Filipino veteran Bert Batawang. Here's hoping Solis now makes a fight with Ivan Calderon.

The Solis win is not at all surprising; only the most diehard of Filipino fight fans could've thought that Batawang had a legit shot. At 36, and coming in with 50 career wins, this was the first real opponent Batawang had ever faced. It was also the first time he'd ever fought outside of his home country. He was a myth, and a shitty challenger.
