Darchinyan/Burgos R1
Mexican fans in attendance not big on Darchinyan, shockingly.

Brent goes Darchinyan KO-3, my roommate Aj takes Darchinyan by decision, Brent's wife Brittany takes Burgos KO-7.

Darchinyan is stalking Burgos, who's looking like he's not terribly excited about engaging. Burgos wants to go upstairs, but he's keeping himself too low to attack effectively. Darchinyan's motion is so bizarre. Darchinyan with a straight left.

Round passes by pretty uneventfully. Darchinyan is pushing the pace, and Burgos is looking like he hasn't gotten his balance entirely.

Scott: Darchinyan 10-9
Brent: Darchinyan 10-9

Darchinyan/Burgos R2
Darchinyan lands a hard shot, and another, and Burgos takes a knee moments later.

Six-count.

Burgos is still not right. Left lands, and Darchinyan is totally in control. Darchinyan is just punishing him with calculated shots, landing very effectively. Hard, hard left from Darchinyan.

Scott: Darchinyan 10-7
Brent: Darchinyan 10-7

Both cards at 20-16 now.

Neither of us think Burgos landed a single punch this round. This is utter domination.

Since
most of us probably want to see Darchinyan/Arce, let me be the first to pray that we don't ever see Burgos/Ler.  Ballroom boxing doesn't mean dancing around the ring and not throwing any punches.  We might see 60 minutes with lower punch output that Shannon Briggs swatting flies in his grandma's basement.

Darchinyan/Burgos R3
Darchinyan is just sticking and landing, sticking and landing. Burgos cannot hurt Darchinyan, and everyone knows it. This is a wait for the brutal KO now. Burgos is working hard to get back into this, and the crowd is loving it, but Darchinyan is entirely indifferent. Darchinyan unloads heavy at the end of the round. Burgos is working his ass off now, but it doesn't matter.

Darchinyan 10-9 on both cards
30-25 each

Darchinyan/Burgos R4
Darchinyan is stalking, and we're at that point of a Darchinyan fight where the opponent is just not willing to engage. Lots of distant dancing from Burgos.

Brent: Burgos 10-9 ("What the hell.")
Scott: Darchinyan 10-9

Brent: Darchinyan 39-35
Scott: Darchinyan 40-34

Darchinyan/Burgos R5
Darchinyan could really stand to move up in weight. I mean seriously. This division is no challenge for him.

Burgos is hurt on a left, but God bless him, he's trying to fight back. Darchinyan is manhandling Burgos and this fight could be ended at any point. It's just a waiting game now. Darchinyan is unloading and lands a nice left, but Burgos clinches to save himself.

Darchinyan is too strong. Too, too, too, too strong.

Darchinyan 10-9 on both

Brent: 49-44 Darchinyan
Scott: 50-43 Darchinyan

Darchinyan/Burgos R6
Burgos slips, no knockdown.

Vicious body shot from Darchinyan. This is not a boring fight, but it's Darchinyan domination by the books.

Burgos is pushed down again.

Wicked shot after he gets up.

Burgos has a mouse under his right eye.

Darchinyan 10-9 on both

Brent: 59-53 Darchinyan
Scott: 60-52 Darchinyan

Darchinyan/Burgos R7
It's now or never for Brittany's daring Burgos call.

Burgos with a weak body shot. It landed and all. Darchinyan loses his balance badly, and Burgos tries to open up on him. Doesn't work. Darchinyan with a WICKED left handed. Burgos took that one, but good god.

Brent: 10-9 Darchinyan
Scott: 10-9 Darchinyan

Brent: 69-62 Darchinyan
Scott: 70-61 Darchinyan

Darchinyan/Burgos R8
This is the first time I've ever watched Burgos, and I'm coming away severely unimpressed.

Brent: 10-9 Darchinyan
Scott: 10-9 Darchinyan

Brent: 79-71 Darchinyan
Scott: 80-70 Darchinyan

This is an OK fight to watch, but Darchinyan is so outclassing Burgos that there's nothing to talk about. If you've seen Darchinyan fight and dominate someone before, you've seen this.

Darchinyan/Burgos R9
Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat.

Darchinyan/Burgos R10
They're now talking about Vic Darchinyan's life and times.

Darchinyan hurts Burgos again near the end of the round. Honestly Burgos' corner needs to stop this. He's getting hurt badly.

Darchinyan 10-9 on both

Scott: 100-88 Darchinyan
Brent: 99-89 Darchinyan

Darchinyan/Burgos R11
Darchinyan is on autopilot and has been for several rounds. Darchinyan is hurting Burgos whenever he FEELS like it. Burgos throws a punch, which gets a big cheer from the Mexican-heavy crowd.

Darchinyan 10-9 on both

Scott: 110-97 Darchinyan
Brent: 109-98 Darchinyan

Darchinyan/Burgos R12
FINAL ROUND. Finally. If I were in charge of Burgos' corner, I'd have ended this thing a while ago.

Darchinyan keeps getting warned for hitting behind the head, but Burgos' ducking has brought that on. He puts his head down, it's all Darchinyan can hit.

Darchinyan corners Burgos and unloads, and the referee stops this.

Darchinyan TKO-12 with 1:34 (I think) remaining

"unloads"
I meant "looks to unload." Burgos was already as good as out of it.

Burgos is beaten up
He's just out of it. This should have been stopped rounds ago, and hopefully Victor Burgos is going to be OK.

by SC on Mar 3, 2007 10:08 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Burgos is badly, badly hurt
Victor Burgos is going to be stretchered out, unable to support his own weight. This looks very bad. They cut off one glove and had to leave the other.

Best of luck to Victor Burgos, and hopefully we'll hear more before the night is over.

Vazquez/Marquez R1
I AM PSYCHED. I AM PSYCHED. I AM PSYCHED.

Crowd is very pro-Marquez, which was expected. THis is going to be awesome.

Trading and moving to start, lots of feeling out going on. Vazquez wants to come inside, which is status quo. Nice sharp left from Marquez, better than Vazquez's just beforehand. Marquez is landing hard shots, and Vazquez's nose is bloodied already. Marquez with body shots, and he's taking control in the first round. Great combo from Marquez, who is taking over. Marquez wobbles Vazquez, but the round ends. First round is no disappointment.

10-9 Marquez from both of us

Vazquez/Marquez R2
Marquez is landing some serious shots, exclamation point on a right to the jaw. Vazquez has yet to get going, but Marquez has had no trouble. But the same thing could have been said last year with Gonzalez and Vazquez, and Israel is always a punch or two away from another win. There is nothing about this fight that isn't intriguing.

Marquez with another nasty right hand that lands to the jaw. Vazquez is taking good shots, and he's losing this fight, but there's a lot of time to go.

10-9 Marquez from both
20-18 Marquez from both

Vazquez/Marquez R3
Marquez hurts Vazquez, and Vazquez steps back. VAZQUEZ FLOORS MARQUEZ ON A LEFT HOOK. Holy SHIT.

Marquez is up, but this is exactly what everyone expected.

Just trading now. Fighting. FIGHTING. Marquez is still shaken up.

Wooooooo WHEE.

Vazquez 10-8 on both
28-28 on both

Vazquez/Marquez R4
Action, action, action and hard shots from Marquez. Without the knockdown, Marquez has not quite dominated, but controlled this fight. Marquez is showing beyond any doubt that he's one of the best fighters on the planet.

Marquez working the jab, like Gonzalez did last year. Vazquez whiffs on a haymaker. Marquez with a nice combination, and a body shot. Another nice combo. Marquez is just SHARP, and clearly the superior technical fighter.

Marquez 10-9 on both, a great regrouping round
Marquez 38-37 on both cards

Vazquez/Marquez R5
Vazquez with a great combo, Marquez comes back with his own. Big right from Marquez ends another combo. I can't say this enough: This fight is no disappointment, and I was as hyped up for this as anyone was.

Vazquez with a nice right, and BAM Marquez comes back with a hard uppercut. Marquez is a goddamn fantastic fighter -- he was winning the round he lost, too.

Marquez is dominating this round. Marquez with another vicious right hand. Vazquez is hurt. Marquez comes in, but Vazquez is THROWING. Vazquez was not hurt -- Al thinks he was faking it, and so do both of us. As soon as Marquez got over there, he started firing away. It's an interesting idea. Vazquez is saying he got thumbed now. Who knows?

Marquez 10-9 from both
Marquez 48-46 on both cards

Vazquez/Marquez R6
Vazquez with the double left hook, and he looks very much like he knows he needs to get back into this in case it goes to the cards. He'd be right, too.

Vazquez is pushing the action this round, a little more wild. Marquez isn't going with him, which is smart on Marquez's part.

Marquez's jab has been very effective tonight. Tons of action this round.

Marquez 10-9 from Brent
Vazquez 10-9 from Scott

Vazquez/Marquez R7
Vazquez's nose is in bad shape. Hell, his whole face doesn't look good at all.

Vazquez lands that left hook of his. That'll make your knees weak and your liver quiver, daddy. This is some fight. When I start doing my goddamn Dusty Rhodes talk, I'm seeing something special. Like one time I saw a huge ass spider. Seriously.

Vazquez with some nice body stuff, but Marquez's combinations are just outstanding tonight. Vazquez with a big left, Marquez stands and fires back.

There has not been a single lull in this fight, and it hasn't been a brawl either. It's just been tremendous boxing.

Vazquez is now firing away, and Marquez comes right back at him. This has been GREAT.

Vazquez 10-9 from both

66-66 from Scott
67-65 from Brent

Vazquez just quit.

Israel Vazquez has quit after the seventh round
With a broken nose, Vazquez has retired from the fight. He just couldn't breathe.

There will be a rematch, and I can't wait.

Rafael Marquez TKO-7, new WBC Super Bantamweight champion

It's a shame this fight had to end this way, and now I wait for the announced date of the rematch.
