TONIGHT! Rahman v. Sykes on Vs.
There's a Kid Diamond/Miguel Huerta fight going on right now. I wasn't planning to score tonight, but this fight has been good enough to change my mind. Huerta is beating Diamond right now, just starting to beat him up in the seventh round. It's been a rugged fight. Excellent stuff so far. Just great shots from Huerta.
Rahman's return to the ring is somewhat important, taking on Taurus "The Bull" Sykes, a 32-year old Brooklyn product with a 25-3-1 record. Rumors are that if Rahman wins tonight, he could face Joe Mesi before the year is out.
Diamond/Huerta has been a slugfest. If you get a chance to catch one of the 1,000 replays on the Vs. Network this week, check it out. I've never been huge on Diamond, and Huerta is exposing his weaknesses, as well as showing some real toughness of his own.

Huerta floors Diamond
They're trying to make excuses for Diamond with the late replacement and all this, but fuck that. Huerta is a journeyman fighter that Diamond should have been able to beat if he was as good as some people want him to be. He's not, and he's getting shelled out there.

Diamond has to go for the KO in R12
Scoring in my head, I only have Diamond winning one round.
Diamond goes down again, but that one was a slip. Good call. Diamond has nothing left and is walking on jell-o legs right now. Through 11 rounds, Huerta has landed four less punches but also has thrown about 250 less than Diamond.
Huerta's style is one that is obviously very frustrating, but he's also a lot more smooth than you'd expect a guy at his level to be. This could be a rocket booster win for him, and it's going to be a terrible setback for Diamond, who was already kind of difficult to market.
Yeah, Huerta even won this round. Really good fight, I have Huerta winning very clearly. If the judges fuck this up, it'll be highway robbery of the highest order.

Diamond/Huerta official decision
114-113 Diamond
114-113 Diamond
Are you fucking kidding me? The fucking sad thing is that you could feel it coming. I knew this was going to happen. What an utter horseshit decision. What fight did these incompetents watch?
Commentators shit on it, crowd shits on it, and let's just go ahead and say it: Kid Diamond was supposed to win, so he was given a win. Utter bullshit, and congratulations to Miguel Huerta for winning tonight's fight, no matter what the idiot judges say. There is no way to have scored this fight for Diamond. I even think 116-111 for Huerta is too close.
Huerta destroyed Diamond. It was a really entertaining fight, and I'm glad I watched it, but the decision makes having watched it pointless. The guy that was supposed to win won, and it was charity. "Here, continue your career! We don't know who Miguel Huerta is, anyway."

Diamond interview
Yeah, dude, Huerta doesn't have the skill. "I was throwing, like, a lot of punches, instead of 1-2." They MISSED.
"Fans just are fans. And some fans they have no idea, you know, what is going on in the ring."
Kid Diamond is out of his gourd if he actually thinks he won the fight. He's also lying about knowing who his opponent was for only three days. That's bullshit. I've known about the opponent change for longer than that. If Kid Diamond didn't know more than three days ago, he should get some new management.
Huerta: "I would have loved to have been knocked out, instead of getting robbed the way I was tonight."

Someone fix Buffer's mic.

Rahman/Sykes R1
First round sees nothing happen. Rahman hasn't done fuck all and Sykes isn't willing to get in there with him. Sykes looks awkward and intimidated against Rahman. Rahman hasn't pressed the action even once, but Sykes isn't putting any real effort out there either. Rahman's lunges at the end of the round look hideous.
This round was crap and I refuse to give it to either one of them.

Rahman/Sykes R2
Rahman lands a decent shot to start the round, and Sykes comes back with a couple of body shots near the ropes as they're all tangled up. Rahman gets hit low. This is bowling shoe ugly. Rahman didn't look too fat before I saw him move, and he didn't look THIS fat before I saw him try to punch.
Rahman gets NAILED and goes into the clinch. A jab by Skyes lands. Sykes is getting warned for low shots. Those weren't low. There goes one undetected. If this goes all 10 I assume Rahman will win because he was supposed to. This is obscenely bad boxing by Rahman. He looks like someone who has no idea what he's doing.
Sykes won this round because he landed one good punch.
Sykes 10-9
Sykes 20-19

Rahman/Sykes R3
Sykes is trying to throw bombs, one lands. Rahman winds up laying on Sykes against the ropes. Rahman looks God awful -- I cannot stress this enough. If Rahman is trying to come back and show people something (which Wally just said as I was typing this), he's doing a terrible job. Any good heavyweight would knock him out early tonight.
Rahman with what would have been a good combo if he wasn't punching with all the ferocity of a fat child in the parking lot at Wendy's.
Sykes is warned again for a low shot, and I again didn't think it was low. That looked above the belt line even.
Sykes 10-9
Sykes 30-28
This is a joke. To call this professional boxing is a stretch through three rounds.

Rahman/Sykes R4
Sykes is winging shots and a right hurts Rahman, who doesn't seem to have any answer. Rahman hurts him back with a short left. I can't believe this is a Hasim Rahman fight, to be totally honest. This looks like a six-rounder on a Wednesday Night Fights undercard between two 20-year old kids that have yet to mature.
I don't even know how to score this round. This is like a playground fight. A bad one.
Rahman 10-9, I suppose
Sykes 39-38

Rahman/Sykes R5
Rahman catches Sykes coming in and knocks him a little off balance, maybe hurting him. Right hand lands over the top. If Rahman wasn't so fat tonight then he'd be able to put him away. Hell, he should've put him away already. Sykes was definitely hurt on that right. He's just trying to get his composure. Hanging on.
Ugly exchange against the ropes. Rahman couldn't do shit after stunning Sykes, which is a really bad sign. If I was Hasim Rahman, I might seriously reconsider my career after this mess. If I was Taurus Sykes, I might've done that a few years ago, although I don't blame him for this. He is what he is; Rahman is supposed to be a former world heavyweight champion.

Rahman/Sykes R6
I'm starting to really like Wally.
My GOD, how could anyone defend this fight? Sykes looks as bad as he's supposed to, and Rahman somehow looks even worse. This is perhaps the worst fight I've seen this year.
Rahman loses his mouthpiece. I don't know how, but he did. The referee is all over Rahman's corner, taking this as nothing more than Rahman trying to take a moment to catch his breath. This is storybook shitty.
Sykes pops Rahman with a right upstairs. Then a jab lands right through Rahman's hands, and it was a nice one (relatively, anyway). Rahman basically tackles Sykes against the ropes near the bell, trying to knock him down. Nothing goes.
Sykes 10-9
Sykes 58-57

Rahman/Sykes R7
The referee starts round seven with, "I'm tellin' ya now: Clean up this bout or I'm gonna start gettin' involved." He's as sick of this shit as the rest of us.
Rahman has no jab. It's a slapfight. This is a sparring session, and a bad one at that. This is close, sure. But it's not anybody's fight, it's nobody's fight.
More shit where they lean on each other and try to push one another around the ring, throwing little potshots on the inside. The crowd has absolutely turned on this one now. There is nothing to like about this fight.
Once they get torn apart from each others' loving arms, Sykes is the only one that punches coming back into their warm embraces. So I suppose that would make him the aggressor.
Sykes with an uppercut of sorts. Sykes with a jab that sneaks partially through. Rahman's glove needs to be retaped. Pretty soon, I think someone's shoe will fall off.
Awful. This is setting heavyweight boxing back three years.

Rahman/Sykes R9
This is a fight between one guy who can't knock anyone out tonight and one who can't knock anyone out, period.
I feel so bad for the people that paid for a ticket to see this. Even with the undercard fight that was fantastic, they got a terrible decision.
Low blow from Sykes, and a point is taken away. That one was certainly a foul. Now Rahman's tape is being fixed. Sykes', too. This is an unbelievably bad fight.
Thank God there's only one more round of this shit left. Sykes pops him again, and he's throwing bombs now. None of them land. Sykes hits him with another right.
Rahman puts Sykes down with a right hand. Too bad for Sykes, but who cares?
With the point deduction, Sykes is screwed.
Rahman 10-7 (this was 9-9 before the knockdown)
Rahman 86-84

Rahman/Sykes R10
Big overhand right from Sykes. More video problems. Taurus Sykes has 40 seconds left and he's doing nothing. Just start throwing. You have nothing to lose. Even the commentators are begging him to fight.
Sykes falls, but it's a slip. He wins this round, but it's not enough on my card.
Sykes 10-9
Rahman 95-94
That is about as bad a win as you can possibly get.
