Edwin Valero, who hails from Venezuela but lives and fights in Japan, scored his 21st consecutive KO last night while defending his WBA super featherweight belt against Michael Lozada. Valero's record now stands at 21-0, with all of the wins coming by KO. What's perhaps even more impressive than that is that 19 of those KOs came in the first round.
Valero, who was making the first defense of his title, is banned from fighting in the US due to a head injury he suffered in a motorcyle accident. Nonetheless, given his astonishing knockout streak, he is very highly regarded by many fight fans in this country.
