Joachim Alcine retained the WBA's 154-pound title via 12th round TKO of Alfonso Mosquera in the main event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, improving to 30-0 with his 19th knockout. On the undercard, super middleweight Jean Pascal went to 20-0 with a ten-round unanimous decision win over American Brian Norman, with three judges' cards of 98-92.
Pascal is supposedly on the January 11th Friday Night Fights card on ESPN2, which seems set up to bring us a Miranda-Pascal fight later on. It's a fight I'd love to see, as both bring excitement.
24-year old Carlos Tarmara beat Alejandro Hernandez via unanimous decision in Miami, with scores of 117-111, 117-11 and 116-112. Tarmara improved to 17-3 (13 KO), and Hernandez falls to 19-5. Alex de Jesus went to 16-0 with a win over veteran Steve Quinonez.
At the MGM Grand, Enrique Ornelas ended Bronco McKart's three-fight win streak, as McKart failed to answer the bell for the sixth round. McKart twice floored Ornelas, but was injured and wasn't able to make it out for the sixth round bell. A rubber match between the two wouldn't surprise me.
On the undercard, Brit John Murray (18-0) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Miguel Munguia, and Scot Craig McEwan went to 9-0 with a near-unanimous 8-round decision over Alfredo Contreras. Contreras was given one round on all three official cards. Lee Meager (21-2-2) went to a draw with Jose Alberto Gonzalez (14-4-1).
It's now time -- Mayweather-Hatton is tonight, and we at Bad Left Hook will be here for those that aren't ordering or watching the PPV broadcast. We will have round-by-round coverage and analysis of all four fights on the HBO pay-per-view, from Cherry-Ferguson to the main event.
