Oh for God's sake: Maskaev-Peter postponed

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

The October 6 bout between WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev and challenger Samuel Peter has been postponed thanks to Maskaev's ailing back. Showtime sure has the good luck, huh? All of their big fights are going down in flames.

A decision on fully cancelling the show -- which also features McCline-Williamson, Golota-McBride and Santos-Rivera -- has not been made yet. Honestly, it's an OK enough card to run with on TV, but the live gate at Madison Square Garden might be an issue. And what's the main event? Golota-McBride?

Maskaev's camp says the initial injury occured about 2 1/2 weeks ago. After multiple MRIs, it's been revealed that he has a herniated disc and a bulging disc.

The Peter camp, still with a distaste for Maskaev manager Dennis Rappaport, believes there should be an interim title fight, as their guy has more than earned his title shot, which was a real pain in the ass for them to actually procure in the first place. I can't say as though I really disagree.
