Clinton Woods is talking September for a return to the ring after previously considering retirement, and the 36-year old Sheffield native wants to face Antonio Tarver again.
But Woods told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I feel I have a point to prove after losing to Tarver. That wasn't me in that ring.
"There's no way I want to call it a day after that performance."
Who would, really? Tarver looked the best he had since prior to getting smacked around by Bernard Hopkins, but I think he still looked old and rather slow-handed overall. The fact that Woods looked absolutely horrendous (the worst he's looked since the Jones drubbing in '02, probably) made it a fairly easy night for Tarver.
Tarver wants a big payday. Who could blame him? He's 39 and sees himself as a Hall of Famer building a lasting legacy. Though Woods is a solid fighter who has had a fine career, Tarver adds nothing to his resume by beating him again. Nobody in their right mind questions who won the first time around.
Good luck, Clinton. Now get ready for a fight with Dean Francis or Tito Mendoza or someone like that.
