Boxing Scene is reporting that the Samuel Peter-Vitali Klitschko clash for Peter's WBC heavyweight title could come on October 4 in Berlin, and would be aired in the U.S. by Showtime.
I will not even consider putting this fight into our schedule until October 3. I really feel bad for Sam Peter that his career is being screwed with by Vitali Klitschko, the WBC, and the whims of promoters. If the fight does happen, it's big money for him. I'm 65% sure it will not, and this will all be wasted time. Peter has put up with enough waiting games the past two years.
If the fight does happen, how long do you figure it lasts? Five or six rounds? Vitali will almost certainly be pressed hard by the big-punching "Nigerian Nightmare," who will look to expose rustiness in Klitschko right away. Klitschko, meanwhile, is pretty much a closed book. No one knows how he'll choose to fight.
I also hate that I dislike Vitali so much now, because he was a hell of a fighter. But all these aborted comebacks have soured me on him. He doesn't really deserve a title shot right off, and his show of having a tune-up fight (cancelled, of course) last year was flat-out annoying.
I'm hoping it happens so we can just get it over with.
