Junior middleweight Richar Gutierrez's fight with Jesus Gonzalez was supposed to main event tonight's Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 from Florida, but the bout has been scrapped because Gonzalez can't make weight. He alerted everyone that he'd be unable to come down to 154 after weighing 158 on Wednesday.
He offered Gutierrez half of his $7,500 purse to fight even though the weight would be off, but Gutierrez declined. Honestly I think if I'm Gutierrez, I would've gone ahead and fought. He's certainly within his rights to not and I don't blame him, but his career isn't exactly peaking right now after a TKO loss to Alfredo Angulo and a struggling draw against tomato can Jerome Ellis last time out.
With Gutierrez-Gonzalez off, Breidis Prescott's fight with gatekeeper Humberto Toledo is bumped to main event status. The card is still pretty nice, with Yuriorkis Gamboa taking on Walter Estrada and Cuban prospect Erislandy Lara in action against Keith Gross. We'll be here at 9pm ET for live, round-by-round coverage and scoring.
