Call it boxing's version of The Decision. Fittingly, it won't be in prime time. Or on television.
Tonight (well, tomorrow morning, technically) at 3am EDT, toprank.com will allow fans the world over to listen in on a conference call where we'll find out if Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have come to terms for a November 13 mega-fight.
My gut feeling is that since Top Rank is planning this by themselves, they don't expect Mayweather to agree, and they've probably finalized whatever the backup plan is or would be. That's just speculation on my part, but I would guess if Top Rank believed they had a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, this would be much bigger than a 3am web site conference call.
Stupidly, we'll be up and will bring whatever the news is to you at that time. You know what, no.
On Friday Night Fights, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com said it "doesn't look like" we'll have a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. After midnight tonight, they no longer will negotiate exclusively with Mayweather, Rafael says. What's interesting there is that it's been reported that Michael Koncz has already spoken with Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.
For this evening, make sure you join us for live coverage of Friday Night Fights, featuring the ring return of Zab Judah, and ShoBox.
