Those who think boxing undercards are so bad, time to actually watch the shows. After a great Mayweather vs Ortiz undercard in September that was three fights of action before the main event, the Pacquiao vs Marquez card has started with two straight terrific action fights.
Though Breidis Prescott (24-4, 19 KO) was boxing well through much of the fight and outboxing Mike Alvarado (32-0, 23 KO), even busting him up, the tide started turning after five rounds, and a phone booth war broke out. As the two fighters ripped into one another, the heat of the fight turned up and turned out something notable: A great fight, with Alvarado showing a ton of heart, and Prescott trying to hang on to a lead in the late rounds.
After giving away the ninth, Alvarado came out roaring in the 10th and final round, and landed vicious shots, with great uppercuts. After Prescott went down for the first time in his career, Alvarado looked to close the show, and did -- referee Jay Nady stopped it at 1:53 of the final round, with Alvarado finishing a great comeback.
Prescott was leading 87-84, 87-84 and 86-85 on the official cards. Bad Left Hook had Prescott up 87-84.
