MMA Nation Senior Editor Luke Thomas, who has been a friend of our site for years, had the chance to talk to Seth Mitchell, Lamont Peterson and Barry Hunter recently ahead of the December 10 Khan vs Peterson card. We'll start here with Luke's video interview of Mitchell, the former college football player turned heavyweight prospect, who faces veteran Timur Ibragimov in a step-up fight, televised by HBO as the co-feature.
Mitchell on Ibragimov:
"We wanted to get Chazz Witherspoon. We tried to get Chazz Witherspoon, that fight fell out. And then there was another opponent, and after that it was Timur. I just train hard and let them try to figure out who to fight and whatnot. ... No risk, no reward. I definitely think, to the people who know boxing, they know who he is. But to the average Joe, they don't know who he is. He's gonna be prepared to fight, I'm prepared to fight. December 10th we'll see how it comes out, but I'm definitely looking forward to it."
Mitchell on his favorite fighters to watch:
"I love watching Floyd Mayweather. ... I like watching Canelo (Alvarez) for the combinations he throws. My favorite fighter is probably Miguel Cotto. I like his demeanor in the ring, I like the way he carries himself outside the ring, family man. He shows -- he's very confident but he's not cocky. That's what I like about him."
Mitchell on Pacquiao vs Marquez III:
"I thought Marquez (beat Pacquiao). ... I thought it should have been a draw, or Marquez by one. Some of the rounds were close, and I knew the close rounds, they'd give them to Pacquiao. I could have lived with a draw. I could have lived with the judges saying Pacquiao won by one point, or Marquez by one point. But definitely not that 116-112."
Mitchell on Pacquiao vs Mayweather:
"For me, I knew (Mayweather would win) before this fight. I got a couple of buddies that were definitely Pacquiao fans, and now they're like, 'I don't know, I think Mayweather would win.'"
