Here's a Showtime Sports look at Saturday night's fight between IBF super middleweight titlist Lucian Bute and veteran challenger and former light heavyweight world champion Glen Johnson. The two are very friendly outside of the ring, have sparred extensively in the past, and are promising to put aside their warm feelings for the big upcoming fight.
I hope they don't bro-hug their way through this thing, but I will admit that with all the laughable, corny jive we have to put up with in so many fights, it's nice to see a couple of professionals admit they don't hate each others' guts and that they're fighting because it made business sense. Because in the end, as always, it's a business, and you do what you have to do to keep moving forward in boxing.
Both are noted as two of boxing's nicer guys, a pair of gentlemen who don't talk trash, don't get into press conference shoving matches, and don't make mountains of molehills. Honestly, this video got me more excited. I can't be sure about Bute, but I know Glen Johnson isn't going to come to mess around, and I have no fear of friendship making for a pitty-pat fight.
