Paul Williams, Erislandy Lara in Talks for Showtime Double-Header on January 21

Dan Rafael of tweeted this evening that junior middleweights Paul Williams and Erislandy Lara appear headed for a January 21 double-header on Showtime, six months after their incredibly controversial fight against one another in Atlantic City.

Following their fight, which everyone but Dan Goossen had Lara winning, there was some talk of a rematch, but nothing came of it. Neither has been back in the ring to date, and Williams (40-2, 27 KO) hasn't even had any serious chatter with his name attached. There was a rumor of a possible fight between Lara (15-1-1, 10 KO) and Sergiy Dzinziruk, but nothing came of it.

No opponents or venue have been set for the January 21 card, but Carlos Molina (19-4-2, 6 KO) was recently rumored as a possible opponent for Williams. Molina himself was involved in a much-debated fight with Lara in March, netting a draw on Friday Night Fights when many felt he deserved the win.

Given the double-header idea, it might be wise to expect fights that will make Williams and Lara heavy favorites, with Showtime possibly trying to build to a rematch later in the year, perhaps in the summer months.
