With Erik Morales not ready to fight on January 28, the double-header led by his fight with Danny Garcia has officially been postponed until February or March, reports Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com. Here's what Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions had to say:
"We're going to postpone the card. The entire card will run on another date either in February or March," Schaefer told RingTV.com on Tuesday.
"I'm currently talking with HBO and with different venues to see how we can do it and what would be the best date to make it work for everybody. But the entire, four-fight card will definitely happen, it will just have to be at a later date."
This is hardly the worst news overall -- these are both good fights that many are looking forward to seeing, as everyone is taking a risk, but Morales wasn't in shape and just had gallbladder surgery, and it's hard to blame him for not being ready to fight six weeks after surgery.
Still, I remain skeptical that Morales vs Garcia actually happens, and I hate saying that because Morales is one of my favorite fighters, but it seems like a bad style matchup and Erik is smart enough to know bad style matchups when he sees them. I've just never been convinced this fight would actually happen. I hope it does because it's dangerous and befitting a "champion." Garcia has earned a shot. As for Kirkland vs Molina, that's just a good fight.
We'll see, but for now, consider it still on, just pushed back.
