Cuban light heavyweight prospect Luis Garcia was rusty and just plain didn't impress in his first appearance on ShoBox tonight, but did win an easy eight-round decision over Alexander Johnson on scores of 80-71, 80-72, and 80-72. Bad Left Hook scored it 80-72 for Garcia.
Garcia (12-0, 9 KO) never had Johnson (12-1, 5 KO) in any real danger, and just didn't look like the fighter that many had raved about seeing in Ireland after his defection from Cuba. Rust may have played a major factor, as Garcia hadn't fought in 13 months, and there was also the fact that Johnson sandbagged the fight from an entertainment standpoint, retreating, refusing to engage, and not throwing much back.
In all, Johnson landed 32 punches over the eight rounds, average four landed blows per round.
Johnson did complain of stomach problems after the seventh round, and it may be believable since he was breathing heavy as early as the very first round, and just never did look good at all.
