Today at 5pm EDT live on Epix and EpixHD.com in the U.S., Vitali Klitschko will take on Cuban hopeful Odlanier Solis from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. Bad Left Hook will be here with live, round-by-round coverage, scoring and analysis during and immediately following the fight. Those who are without Epix can watch the fight live today on their web site by taking the free trial offer, which a ton of people are doing.
For those who might have missed our preview of the bout, you can read that by clicking here. Solis is a heavy underdog, but I think can be fairly called the best opponent Klitschko has faced since returning to the sport in 2008. He also came in at a relatively trim 246 pounds on the scales for the fight, which is probably still 15-20 pounds over what most believe his ideal fighting weight would be, but it's an improvement, and right around his professional career low. Klitschko, for the record, came in at 249 pounds, but is a bit over five inches taller than Solis, too.
There won't be a televised undercard on the Epix broadcast, and the Sky Sports airing in the U.K. will start at 4:30 EDT with a Commonwealth super featherweight fight between Liam Walsh (10-0, 7 KO) and Jon Kays (13-1, 4 KO) from Wigan. For those interested, the undercard in Cologne features the following bouts:
Cruiserweights: Ola Afolabi (15-2-3, 6 KO) v. Lubos Suda (23-4-1, 15 KO)
Cruiserweights: Nuri Seferi (29-6, 18 KO) v. Jozsef Nagy (24-9, 15 KO)
Welterweights: Stefan Worth (10-1-1, 3 KO) v. Ferenc Zold (11-4, 5 KO)
Heavyweights: Michael Sprott (35-15, 17 KO) v. Serdar Uysal (13-2-2, 6 KO)
Cruiserweights: Hizni Altunkaya (15-0, 8 KO) v. Dirk Mandelartz (7-4-3, 3 KO)
I almost don't want to believe that "Dirk Mandelartz" is a real name. It sounds like something a Steve Martin character would come up with.
